JOB PURPOSE:
To instruct students in Biology with special emphasis in teaching Molecular/Cell Biology courses in accordance with College policies and procedures. To work on curriculum and department and college-wide issues and problems.

Department Chair of Biology
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND TASKS:
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Teaches a variety of lecture and lab courses in Biology, with special emphasis in Molecular/Cell Biology.
Participates actively within the Biology Department and assists with the maintenance and development of biology curriculum.
Demonstrates creativity and innovation in the field,and service in the profession and/or the community.
Plans and organizes lesson plans, research and reference materials, syllabi, and other learning aids.
Maintains office hours to assist students.
Serves on college-wide and departmental committees.
Participates in graduation, general assembly, and other official College functions.
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean, and/or Executive Vice President.

Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.

Demonstrated ability to teach Molecular/Cell Biology courses.

Demonstrated ability to use laboratory equipment as required in conducting Molecular/Cell Biology laboratory exercises.

Demonstrated ability to teach Molecular/Cell Biology lectures and labs.
Effectively assisting student learning.
Interacting with students of diverse backgrounds.
Being punctual for classes and office hours.
Maintaining an established schedule, including evenings and weekends, including possible multiple campus locations that may vary by semester.
Maintaining confidentiality of student information.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Required
Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, class room or other current learning technologies for effective teaching at the community college level.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to communicate effectively with students.
Manual dexterity, ability to lift and move 10 pounds.
Work is routinely performed in classroom and lab settings.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Preferred
Experience in the community college environment.
EDUCATION
Required
A Master's degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Botany, Aquatic Biology, Integrative Biology, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Zoology, Anatomy, Physiology, OR Evolution Or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology, Biological Sciences, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, Botany, Aquatic Biology, Integrative Biology, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology or Zoology
