Qualifications:

Candidates for this position will have the required education and experience. A terminal degree is required. The successful candidate will have at least five years of progressively responsible experience in academic administration including a record of leadership and an understanding of university budgets. The Dean of the Graduate School and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs should also have familiarity primarily with Masters-level graduate programming but should also have some experience with PhD programming. The Dean/AVPAA should also exhibit a commitment to interdisciplinary programming. Candidates will have the proven ability to work with faculty across a variety of disciplines. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.

Roles and responsibilities:

The Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School will

Work with the Deans in the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Education and Health Science, and Business coordinate and manage graduate education at Minot State University.
Explore new directions for graduate studies.
Chair the Graduate Council and work with the Council to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the educational attainment of graduate students and innovation within the curriculum.
Hold final approval of graduate theses.
Oversee new interdisciplinary programs and directions.
Work with MSU’s Center for Extended Learning to develop evening and weekend programs that serve the need of adult learners.
Have direct oversight of the International and Multicultural Center, the Honors Program and the Center for Engaged Teaching and Learning.
Oversee the General Studies major.
Pursue interdisciplinary programing at the undergraduate level.
Be responsible for assessing academic advising for undergraduate students.
Serve as a member of MSU’s Academic Affairs Council and the Deans Council.
Carry out other duties as assigned.

This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Salary: $92,000
