College of the Mainland Assistant Professor – Biology Posting Number: 0600306 Classification Title: Faculty - Masters Position Title: Assistant Professor - Biology (2 Positions) Classification Code: 904 Position Type: Faculty Department: Math&Science Closing Date: Open Until Filled Special Instructions to Applicants: Our goal at College of the Mainland is to attract a highly qualified and high-performing workforce by providing fair and equitable compensation. Each position is assigned a pay band and corresponding salary range. The midpoint is normally the highest salary at which candidates are hired. Application review to begin March 22, 2013. Contract Length: 9 months Class Summary: Support and uphold the mission, vision, and values of the College and comply with all College policies. Responsible for providing instruction, facilitating learning, and practicing retention stratgies within the appropriate department/program. Develop and revise curriculum and course work. Provide scheduled office hours for student consultation, mentoring, advisement. Serve on College committees as needed and assigned. Pay Rate: FM Classification/Grade: FM Minimum Education/Training/Experience: M.S. degree in Biology, or a M.S. degree and 18 graduate hours in Biology Minimum Knowledge & Skills: Principles and practices of teaching and training techniques; Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the specific course and program area; Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy; Record keeping procedures; Appropriate computer applications, especially word processing and email; Experience with or willingness to learn latest teaching/learning technologies and online instruction; Written and oral communication skills commensurate with position and level of education, and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisors, and the general public; Must be proficient with computer software used for presentations (e.g. PowerPoint) and word processing (e.g. Word); Ability to teach a variety of Biology courses in college catalog. Experience teaching Biology at a two-year college. Must be willing to teach evenings. Preferred Education/Training/Experience: Some experience teaching Anatomy and Physiology at a two-year college. Preferred Knowledge & Skills: Demonstrated commitment to the College's diversity goals, including the goal of becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution. Job Duties: Physical Requirements: Must be willing to teach evenings and weekends. Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and seeing. Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
