Department: Academic, Career and Technical Education Reports Directly To: Opening Date: February 21, 2013 Closing Date: Open Until Filled Status: Exempt Salary: Per Adjunct Fee Schedule SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Under the direct supervision of the Vice President of Academic, Career & Technical Education or his/her designee and the appropriate academic department chair, the adjunct instructor will perform the following duties: Instructs students based upon the curriculum as approved by the UTTC Curriculum Committee and the Vice President of Academic, Career and Technical Education in the field of Business Management. Adjusts lesson plans and other course materials to meet the needs of students. Instructors must be sensitive to the cultures of the students, must be willing to learn about those cultures, and be able to integrate culturally-appropriate and culturally-relevant material when appropriate. Evaluates students’ progress and communicates with student’s academic advisor when problems or issues arise. Monitors and reports student attendance and academic progress daily, at mid-terms and at the end of Finals week through the Jenzabar system (MyUTTC LMS). Keeps a record of weekly coursework in MyUTTC LMS. Refers students to appropriate academic support and student/campus life services. Will manage classroom activities according to policies and procedures for the UTTC Faculty Handbook. Participates in assessment, professional development, and other activities required by the institution. Served as a secondary advisor for students. This role is to be taken seriously. Instructors enter into an advisement relationship with students with regard to academics and other topics insofar as these relationships do not interfere with other helping and/or therapeutic relationships those students have on campus. INDEPENDENCE OF ACTION: None. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None. WORKING CONDITIONS: Adjunct instructors are to conduct class meetings according to the master course schedule and in the class location designated on the schedule. Class meetings must be held for the duration specified in the schedule. Adjunct instructors teaching online courses will maintain a presence in the course through consistent participation in the discussion forum and email as appropriate. Normal working hours will vary according to need assuring that work and reporting are complete in a timely manner according to the course schedule and the college academic calendar. Adjunct instructors teaching online are expected to have stable and reliable Internet access and meet the minimum technical requirements listed for students. This includes an up-to-date web browser, currently supported operating system, and Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Adjunct instructors teaching in a face-to-face situation may use campus computer labs to enter student grades and attendance if needed. Coursework, grades, and student attendance documentation will be maintained in the MyUTTC LMS. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in the content area or related field under which the instructor is hired to teach. Experience teaching online is preferred for those applying to teach online. If no experience, the adjunct candidate must be willing to participate in a training program offered by UTTC. Preference will be given to bona fide American Indian applicants in accordance with UTTC policies and Federal Indian regulations for such preference. If selected for the position, the applicant is subject to a complete background investigation with favorable determination.
