MAJOR FUNCTION: The Human Resources (HR) Specialist I is housed in the Human Resources Office. The Human Resources Specialist I reports directly to the HR Specialist III (Classification Specialist and Workers’ Compensation Coordinator. The HR Specialist I oversees all phases of onboarding for all employees. The HR Specialist I also oversees the TCC Orientation program, which includes facilitating the “TCC Experience,” the College’s New Employee Orientation. The HR Specialist is also responsible for assisting the HR Specialist III in reviewing all position descriptions for compliance with College polices and other regulatory guideline/standards.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in a related major from an accredited college or university. A combination of education and experience in human resources or related experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of TCC policies and procedures; Knowledge of human resource functions with emphasis on new hire processing; Knowledge of federal visa/immigration policies and procedures; Knowledge of State of Florida unemployment compensation benefits. Skills using Windows, Microsoft Office, the Internet, and e-mail; Skill in the collection and analyzation of data for preparation of accurate reports. Ability to set a tone of cooperation, efficiency, and commitment within all areas of responsibility; Ability to work well with fellow staff, students, adjuncts, faculty, and the public; Ability to perform time-sensitive and complex tasks in a collaborative environment; Ability to work under limited supervision; Ability to organize work assignments within strict deadlines and to prioritize workload; Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing and to use correct grammar and appropriate writing styles; Proofread with accuracy and alphabetize documents; Ability to use computer keyboard for long periods of time daily; Ability to gather information and draw conclusions.
PREFERENCE: Preference will be given to those candidate with one year of responsible human resources experience. Preference will also be given to veterans and spouses who are eligible under the Veterans' Preference Law.
