MAJOR FUNCTION: The Instructional Technology Specialist is housed within the Information Technology Department. The Specialist reports directly to the Assistant Director of User Services for Instructional Technologies. The Instructional Technology Specialist works hands-on to design and implement instructional technology systems including but not limited to: projection and presentation systems, technology enhanced classrooms, video conferencing equipment, and other multimedia technologies. The position also works hands-on to install, configure, analyze and maintain (repair) instructional technology systems, presentation/conference systems, and other related audiovisual and multimedia technologies. The Instructional Technology Specialist is also responsible for working hands-on to develop and implement an instructional technology training plan for online and face-to-face delivery.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: Associates degree and three years of experience as a computer support specialist, computer analyst, technical consultant, and/or instructional technology specialist. Experience can substitute for education on a year for year basis.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Working knowledge of installing, operating maintaining, and supporting various audiovisual and instructional technology systems including LCD projectors, computers, control systems, interactive white-boards, and related equipment for a diverse clientele. Working knowledge of installing and supporting various desktop operating systems (Windows XP, 7, 8 OSX), mobile operating systems (iOS, Android) and office productivity suites (MS Office). Principles and knowledge of control protocols used in audiovisual presentation systems. Principles and knowledge of network cabling. Principles and working knowledge of networking equipment including video switches, routers and video servers. Principles and knowledge of proper cable termination standards and techniques used in both the audiovisual and computer networking industries. Ability to read and interpret complex manuals and schematics. Ability to articulate the needs of audiovisual and instructional technology. Ability to work independently; Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, attention to detail, as well as a firm commitment to service; Ability to perform time-sensitive and complex tasks. Ability to work with clients to identify their needs, solve their problems and help them meet their goals. Ability to work independently with minimum guidance, to be a self-starter, and make independent judgments. Working knowledge of designing, installing and supporting audiovisual systems including developing cost estimates for classroom projects. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in higher education technology.
