Position Title: Accountant Analyst Department Name Accounting & Financial Operations Campus or Location District Administration Vacancy Number 145-14 Reports To Manager, Accounting Recruitment Type Not Selected Job Category Support Staff Position Type Full-Time Union Position Non-Union Number of Openings 1 Job Description Summary This position reports to the Senior Accountant Analyst and is responsible for reconciling various accounts, projections of financial information and completing other special projects as needed. Job Responsibilities • Provide all levels of management with useful and accurate financial information on a timely basis via verbal communication or written documentation; • Perform quantitative analysis to assist management in reviewing/resolving business issues and improving overall accuracy/efficiency; • Assist with, prepare, and/or present documentation for annual audit and any internal or external audits, reviews and site visits; • Partner with College stakeholders to understand their underlying business practices to insure that appropriate internal controls are in place and that business activity is recorded in accordance with GAAP; • Ensure the accuracy of information through monthly analysis and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts and variance research for related income statement accounts; • Identify and resolve any issues or reconciling items related to general ledger balance sheet accounts; • Input and maintain appropriate information in the Banner accounting system module and other business systems in the department. Recommend and/or assist with implementation of enhancements and conversions; • Prepare support schedules and other analyses as needed for the long-range plan, including projections of revenues and expenses; • Track and reconcile activity with external partners, including Barnes and Noble and Regional Transit Authority; • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries to accounts, such as accruals, corrections, charge backs, redistributions and other standard entries; • Review of unrestricted funds, as well as high-level reviews of all College funds; • Participate in training with regard to College policies and procedures; and • Performs other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING • Bachelor’s degree; • Three years of experience in financial and/or management analysis and reporting; KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES • Familiarity with and knowledge of how to access and apply guidelines for Generally Accepted accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and relevant Office of Management & Budget (OMB) Circulars; • Ability to perform accounting functions; • Strong attention to detail and accuracy; • Good communication skills; • Skills in keyboarding, basic grammar, and intermediate level skills in word processing (MS Word) and spreadsheet applications (MS Excel); and • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population Preferred Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or an Information Technology related discipline; Experience with SCT Banner; and • Accounting experience in higher education, fund accounting, and/or externally funded projects KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES • Proficiency in database applications (MS Access); • Excellent analytical skills, excellent problem solving skills, abilities to grasp and understand business systems particular to the higher education industry Work Schedule Standard college hours of business Monday through Friday, 8:30AM – 5PM.
