Position Information Posting Number 20110199 Job Title Admissions Advisor Job Category Staff Position Summary Information Job Description Summary Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan’s eastern shore is seeking a Full-Time Admissions Advisor who is dedicated, enthusiastic and experienced. This full-time position would work out of the Niles Campus location. The Admissions Advisor is responsible for working with students to advise them academically as well as mentor them through their educational career at SMC. The full-time Admissions Advisor is also responsible for the following: • Work with incoming students to develop an educational development plan and advise them academically. • Support Dean of the School of Business, Advanced Technology, and Niles campus, when necessary. • Academically advise, register, mentor, and provide basic financial aid information to students. • Handle cash, when necessary, for student payments. • Proficient knowledge of all academic curriculums to provide up-to-date information to incoming and returning students. Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree required. • Minimum of three years of admissions and academic advising experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of this position. Preferred Qualifications • Master’s preferred. Other Information Knowledge Of: • Banner Student Information System, various software systems, and other technology devices. • Regulations of confidentiality as outlined by FERPA. • Working with students from a diverse group of backgrounds. Skills: • Ability to multi-task. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers. Ability: • Dexterity of hands to operate a computer keyboard as well as seeing to read and review materials for accuracy. • Hearing and speaking to exchange information with students, staff and public. • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
