Job Summary/Basic Function: The Assistant Director for Career Services reports to the Director for Advising, Counseling, and Retention Services (ACRS). He/she is responsible for advising students regarding the job search process, maintaining employment resources, and developing and implementing a broad array of innovative career programs. The Assistant Director will initiate innovative approaches to using web technologies, including maintaining on-line job board for students and alumni. He/she will work collaboratively with ACRS staff and the Office of Student Life/Dean of Students to conduct and interpret career related assessments and sponsor special events and programs, including career fairs and student success workshops (i.e., resume' writing, interviewing techniques, interest inventories).
Experience A minimum of three (3) years of career services experience with at least one (1) year in a higher education environment is required.
Education A minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited institution in counseling and guidance, college student personnel, educational administration, student affairs, or a related field is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with career trends, resources, and best practices in higher education and possess a successful record of progressively responsible leadership in career services in a college or university setting. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential to work with students, faculty, and staff. The Assistant Director for Career Services must have basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements: Position requires local travel. Candidate must provide own, personal transportation. Ability to move from one office to another office on campus and between campuses. Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of files, handouts and other office related materials. Adequate vision, hearing and manual dexterity to interact with people in person, on the phone and in writing. Ability to work non-standard hours as required. Job takes place in normal environmental conditions.
