Southwestern Michigan College, a two-year college located approximately 30 minutes north of South Bend, Indiana, and approximately 30 minutes from Lake Michigan, seeks a full-time instructor qualified to teach a combination of public speaking and interpersonal/human communication courses.
This unique opportunity requires involvement with curriculum development, training adjunct faculty, advising Communication students, college committee work, and teaching a 5:5 course load. This is an opportunity for getting involved with curriculum development and the administration of the college’s communications program as the lead instructor for its public speaking and introduction to human communications courses. Thus, we especially welcome applications from enthusiastic candidates who are experienced with teaching as well as advising students who are focusing on a professional communications major.
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods, relate to students, and facilitate student learning. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required. The best applicants will also demonstrate the ability to connect with both traditional and nontraditional students in a rural community college setting. The position is scheduled to begin in the fall semester of 2014.
Qualified applicants will be experienced college instructors with a minimum of a master’s degree.
Applicants must be familiar with curriculum development in public speaking courses and those focused on interpersonal/human communications.
Preferred applicants will be experienced college instructors who are PhD or ABD in Communications, but with a desire to be a generalist.
All applicants must demonstrate the ability to promote active and collaborative learning through a variety of teaching methods, as well as relate to students. Excellent organization and communication skills as well as the demonstrated use of instructional technology are required.
