Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC) sits atop a hill overlooking Pendleton, Oregon, a rural town east of Portland and the Pacific Ocean; west of Boise, Idaho; and south of Spokane, Washington with easy access to I-84, I-82 and US Highways 395 and 11.

Nestled in the shadow of a mountain range, Pendleton is named the 2011 “True West” town of the year by True West Magazine as well as Business Week’s “2011 Best Oregon Town to Raise Kids.” It features a semi-arid climate with four distinct seasons. Bordered by the Blue Mountains, the Columbia River, and rolling crop land, our district abounds in recreational attractions such as fishing, hunting, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking. Besides many local arts and music organization-sponsored events, the surrounding area features extensive regional shopping and an abundance of wineries, wine tasting and fine dining.

We seek the following talented individual who will be responsible for facilitating student learning with quality, comprehensive and timely use of effective teaching and learning methods.  Actively participates within a team concept.  Includes teaching courses within the existing Associate of Applied Science Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) conjunction with an advisory board and in coordination with existing Department of Education guidelines.  Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

Teaches assigned course(s) as scheduled, in accordance with course descriptions as outlined in the course information guide.

Develops course syllabus which includes objectives, measurable outcomes, and purposes of the course, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements and required texts.

Distributes course syllabus at the beginning of the course to orient student(s) to the objectives, measurable outcomes, purposes of the course, attendance requirements, nature of assignments or requirements and required texts.

In addition to adequate presentation of text materials, offers supplemental course-related information to enhance student understanding of early childhood education concepts.

Uses a variety of instructional strategies in several venues to accommodate student learning styles.

Prepares and presents records and reports necessary for proper institutional management.

Follows the highest ethical standards of the teaching profession and promotes the best interest of the College.  This includes acknowledgement of conflict of interest inherent in situations where the instructor also supervises the student on-the-job.

Teaches courses using online learning management systems in support of a degree design that supports a flexible and accessible degree for working adults.

Advises ECE students as defined in the negotiated agreement.

Additional Duties related to Program Coordination

Coordinates the Early Childhood Education Program (ECE).

Provides technical assistance and relevant career technical education (CTE) degree information to established program advisory boards in collaboration with CTE grant supported programs of study.

Coordinates and schedules course offerings based on student needs and available resources.

Facilitates, develops, and maintains articulation with 2 year and 4 year educational institutions.

Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Must have a working knowledge of MS Office Suite.

Requires a high level of effectiveness in meetings and working with a variety of personalities.

Excellent interpersonal and persuasive skills are necessary.

Must be self-motivated and well organized.

Must have demonstrate effective written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Education and Experience

Master’s Degree in the Early Childhood Education preferred.  Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with certification in ECE and/or ECE state endorsement with at least 20 credit hours of ECE coursework at the graduate level.

Three years experience teaching in an Early Childhood Education setting in a school or Head Start program.  Prior college teaching experience preferred.
