Job Description


The Research Management Group in Stanford University’s School of Medicine is seeking a candidate with extensive experience (7- years minimum) in Research Administration to lead and manage a team of Research Process Managers (RPMs) who provide a broad range of support for research administration to faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and department administrators with pre- and post- award activities.  Knowledge of federal regulations that govern sponsored projects and proficiency with both federal and non-federal sponsor policies and processes needed.  Associate Director to manage and provide daily operational leadership specific to policy interpretation and complex problem solving.  Act as the institutional official with delegated signature authority for sponsored projects in the School of Medicine. A remote work arrangement may be considered for candidates with the appropriate background and experience, depending on business needs of each unit. Remote workers’ schedules are based in the Pacific Time zone.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

  • Bachelor's degree and seven years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

  • Expert knowledge and fluency of governmental regulations (e.g., Federal Acquisition Regulation, OMB Uniform Guidance, Cost Accounting Standards).
  • Expert knowledge and ability to understand and interpret university and sponsor policies.
  • Exceptional ability to work well with Stanford’s colleagues and clients and with external organizations.
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal responsibility and value for safety, shown through communication of safety concerns and use and promotion of safe behaviors based on training and lessons learned.
  • Excellent communication skills to convey university policies and pre and post award procedures to all levels of employees and faculty.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead discussions related to personnel performance, development, and growth.
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills including conflict resolution.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

  • School of Medicine Research Process Manager Certification Levels 1 and 2.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work, use a telephone and use light/fine grasping.
  • Occasionally write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
  • Rarely stand, walk, sort, and file paperwork or parts.
