Summary

The School of Education is seeking a Diversity & Inclusion Specialist to join our team to enact and maintain measures that promote diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity (dije) in the SOE. The selected candidate will work with our Associate Dean for dije and other diversity and inclusion leaders on campus to ensure the vision and strategic plan in relation to dije are applied and sustainable for all constituents within the school. We are looking specifically for a candidate interested in a position with potential for growth and advancement as we develop a sustained dije leadership position for the SOE.

Responsibilities*

  • Manage diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity (dije) implementation efforts, including working with the Associate Dean for dije to effectively implement the SOE dije strategic plan.
  • Advise the Associate Dean for dije with refinement suggestions for the SOE strategic plan related to dije programming and objectives. 
  • Develop new programs, trainings, and processes to promote dije throughout the School in areas of climate, recruitment, admissions, hiring, mentoring, curriculum, scholarship, service, and training.   
  • Provide guidance and support to all school constituents in managing dije issues, sensitive situations, or crises. 
  • Work with the Associate Dean for dije and the Education Diversity Advisory Committee to develop metrics and measures for assessing our work over time.
  • Analyze data and produce regular reports on progress toward meeting the school’s dije goals, including year-end annual reports to central campus.
  • Build relationships with school leadership and constituents (faculty, staff, students, fellows, alumni), and actively engage with community members in order to understand their perspectives and lead change.
  • Host regular events and activities that bring visibility to dije issues and initiatives with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the U-M Office of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) to share resources and intensify efforts in dije objectives. 
  • Represent the School of Education with regard to dije issues at the campus level by building relationships with other diversity and inclusion experts on campus as well as with colleagues from relevant academic programs. Consider opportunities to collaborate when possible. 

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree + experience or Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years experience
  • Demonstrated experience, passion, and commitment for addressing diversity, inclusion, justice and equity issues and ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • Outstanding project management skills and ability to bring about change and bring vision into strategy and actionable activities. 
  • Ability to effectively network and build relationships with various internal and external partners.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. 
  • Strong public presentation skills.

Additional Information

This role provides flexibility for some remote work but does require on-site duties due to various work and customer service needs. Under the SOE’s current policy, requests for up to two remote days per week are possible depending on the service needs. The physical work location is at 610 E. University, Ann Arbor, MI.

Salary range: $70,000-$75,000
