The chancellor of the Contra Costa Community College District has voluntarily taken a 5-percent pay cut and asked trustees to limit her taxpayer-funded health benefits.
The board agreed Wednesday night to accept Helen Benjamin's proposal, which will lower her annual pay from $272,328 to $259,356 on July 1. The lower salary is the same as she received in July 2009, and Benjamin also asked that she forego her scheduled 5-percent raise this year.
Trustees, who extended Benjamin's contract by four years, also accepted her request to cap the district's contributions to her health insurance at $500 per month. The decisions come as the district prepares for the state to cut millions of dollars from its budget.
