After a yearlong campaign, Gulf Coast Community College is no longer Gulf Coast Community College.
Now, it’s Gulf Coast State College (GCSC).
Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Friday a bill changing the name of the school. It is the culmination of efforts designed to change the school’s mission as well its name, said Jim Kerley, who now is president of GCSC.
“It’s been a long process,” Kerley said. “We’ve been working on it awhile.”
The idea to change the name of the 54-year-old institution materialized when the school decided to begin offering bachelor’s degrees, Kerley said.
