After nearly a year of discussing the possibility of establishing a site in Warren, Eastern Gateway Community College officials made those plans official Wednesday when they agreed to rent space at the Atrium Building in downtown Warren.
The community college's Board of Trustees approved an initial lease agreement, effective today through June 30, 2011, that allows the college to rent 2,130 square feet, plus another 318 square feet if needed, on the building's first floor, for $27,000 a year from current owner Kleese-Atrium Limited Partnership.
The college has the option to renew the agreement for the same amount, which officials said will remain fixed, when the current agreement expires. The price is based on a rate of $13 per square feet.
The Atrium, 103 W. Market St., sits between Thom Duma Fine Jewelers and the intersection of South Park Avenue and is across the street from Courthouse Square.
"I am very excited about this," Laura Meeks, college president, said. "This is a big step, but it's not the last one. We are hoping to expand and add on. This really is just the start."
