Summary of Job Duties:

The Coridan lab in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas is seeking a recent PhD graduate in chemistry, materials science, or a related field for the position of Postdoctoral Scholar in Experimental Materials Chemistry to study the synthesis of organic-inorganic composites for photoelectrochemical energy conversion applications. The researcher will work closely with the principal investigator, the student research team, and collaborators on the development of materials synthesis and characterization for these applications.
This is an opportunity for a scientist with strong materials characterization skills to learn about a broad range of the implementation and design of materials for the chemical conversion of solar energy. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience with relevant materials synthesis (ex: thin film deposition via physical methods such as sputtering or evaporation or chemical methods such as electrodeposition or atomic layer deposition) and characterization (ex: x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, electrochemical characterization). Demonstrated experience with solar energy conversion, programming skills (ex: Python), and photoelectrochemistry are desirable qualifications for this position, but not compulsory for hiring.
Duties for the position include: synthesizing and characterizing materials of interest to the research lab as outlined by the principal investigator; summarize findings and publish results in primary scientific research journals; lead and assist in writing of publications and reports to funding agencies; present findings at research conferences; supervise and/or collaborate with other personnel (graduate students, undergraduate researchers, and collaborators); maintain up-to-date knowledge of scientific literature related to the goals of the project; maintain and repair research equipment as needed; and other relevant research duties.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or related scientific or engineering field

  • Demonstrated experience (via publication record including first author publications) in the noted materials synthesis and characterization methods described in the summary of duties are necessary qualifications for this position

  • Experience with solar energy conversion, programming (ex: Python), and photoelectrochemistry are desirable qualifications for this position
