Summary of Position

Under the administrative supervision of the College of Health and Human Services Career Director, this position is central to the college’s Career and Professional Success operations. In the context of the UNH Wildcat Way to Professional Success Model, counsel students and alumni in exploring educational, personal, or career goals; identifying interests, skills, and possible majors; exploring internship/experiential learning opportunities; relating majors and competencies to career options; developing concrete action steps to advance career options and the job search process; and researching graduate and post-graduate professional programs.

Career Advising
  • Work with students and alumni in one-on-one appointments and group settings on career-related issues:
    • Identify experience, interests, and skills as they related to majors and careers and assist students to effectively articulating unique career stories in writing and verbally
    • Research internships and careers
    • Prepare resumes and cover letters
    • Interview and network
    • Using social media – internships and jobs
    • Conduct a job search – develop an action plan and identify experiences that reflect competencies required for the position
    • Research graduate and professional school opportunities and the application process
    • Negotiate salary and navigate the onboarding
  • Work with faculty and employers as needed to provide supportive programming and experiences for students.
  • Partner/liaise with CHHS student organizations to provide supportive programming and experiences.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Develop and deliver workshops and other career related events.
  • Represent office at university recruitment events such as admitted student days.
