Full Job Description
ANNUAL SALARY RANGE: $48,000-$52,000
Position Overview
Secure annual operating, exhibition, program, and capital funding from companies, foundations, and government agencies through strategic research, grant and proposal development, and targeted stewardship activities.
Essential Job Functions
- Serve as the primary writer for all grant applications and sponsorship solicitation materials. Must have a strong attention to detail, and work shall be edited (by self and others) prior to submitting to Head of Development or Director/CEO for final approval.
- Perform research to identify, cultivate, and diversify donor prospects. This work shall include foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Develop and maintain prospect lists of current and prospective funding partners.
- Working against budget goals, develop a comprehensive portfolio and schedule of Museum projects with pertinent departments, including Education and Curatorial, to ensure appropriate support for available foundation and government agency funding. Prepare and monitor institutional budgets for grants and sponsorships to ensure financial needs of Museum are met through funding opportunities.
- Maintain schedule of application and reporting deadlines, including timely acknowledgement of gifts and stewardship activities, in cooperation with pertinent team members. Maintain a functional grants management and calendaring system. Complete all appropriate applications, proposals and reports in a timely manner well in advance of deadlines so that there is adequate time to review and revise the proposal/document prior to submission.
- Plan, develop, and prepare grant and sponsorship proposals to corporations, foundations, and government agencies (federal, state, and local branches). Working with the Head of Development, assist in preparation of proposals and collateral materials for Major Gift solicitations.
- Solicit gifts through grant applications in cooperation with Head of Development, Director/CEO, Board of Trustees, and staff as appropriate.
- Manage donor recognition and benefits to increase visibility of gifts to the McNay that coordinate with other stewardship opportunities established throughout the department.
- Work closely with the Development and Finance Departments to track donations and assure accurate development records are maintained.
- With the Finance, Development, Curatorial, and Education departments, monitor grant award compliance through managing Charter Meetings to ensure that funding is expended in accordance with foundation, corporation, and/or government agency requirements. Prepare and submit grant reports as required by funding entities.
- Maintain absolute confidentiality and a friendly, cooperative relationship with Board, staff, volunteers, members, and all Museum supporters.
- Represent the institution as a member of the Development Team at a variety of community events and functions, as required or requested.
- Maintain professional, and positive team approach in all assignments. Seek to learn about other departments, as well as support each member of the Development Team regardless of tasks.
Requirement
Knowledge in all areas of grantsmanship, including the establishment of timelines, program measurements and outputs, preparation, and submission of proposals. Must be able to provide necessary documentation to relative agencies. Excellent writing, editing, speaking, and strong interpersonal skills required.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Work Experience
At least three years’ experience in a leadership position within the non-profit development field (or related) in which a history of research, writing, editing, accuracy, timeliness, client relations, and strong organizational skills are demonstrated.
Other Skills
Must be flexible as to work hours; evening and/or weekend duty occasionally required.
