The Department of Plant and Microbial Biology (PMB) supports teaching, research, and extension programs in fundamental plant biology and microbiology, including basic and applied research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and outreach to state and national clientele.
Essential Job Duties
The Research Assistant will be responsible for the optimization of protocols to detect geminiviruses and other small DNAs in cassava samples.
The primary duties of the Research Assistant include, but are not limited to the following:

- Provide technical support on experiments characterizing the loss of geminivirus resistance in cassava.
- Oversee screening for tomato and Arabidopsis transgenic plants that express geminivirus resistance genes.
- Handle record keeping and will collaborate with other lab researchers.

Minimum Education and Experience
- Relevant Master’s degree, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology, or a realted field and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Other Required Qualifications
- Experience with recombinant DNA and RNA protocols required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with plants preferred.
- At least one (1) year of undergraduate reserach experience in molecular biology.
