Lake Washington Institute of Technology is seeking a qualified part-time instructor to teach American Sign Language course for the Winter 2017 and possibly following quarters. This instructor position requires two years' teaching experience with previous college teaching experience in ASL preferred.
This recruitment is to establish an applicant pool for future part-time faculty vacancies. The college hires part-time faculty on a quarter by quarter basis, dependent on enrollment. If you're selected for an interview for a potential future vacancy, a college representative will contact you.
Plan and develop a variety of instruction objectives and experiences appropriate to college-transfer courses in American Sign Language
Develop and teach to the objectives of the American Sign Language curriculum
Lead students to demonstrate cultural competence through the exploration of deaf history, deaf culture and community
Design learning experiences for the unique characteristics of individual adult students through classes, individual instruction and self-directed learning
Maintain appropriate records which indicate student progress and meet college requirements
Follow disciplinary procedures as prescribed and deal consistently and fairly with all students
Post the class syllabus and students' grades via the online course system (currently Canvas)
Bachelors in related field required; Masters strongly preferred
2 years teaching experience; college teaching experience preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must have sensitivity and ability to successfully interact with diverse populations
Previous experience with an online course system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Sakai, Moodle) preferred
