Position Description
The Health Education Department offers a wide variety of classes that meet graduation and transfer requirements as well as courses designed to train students for careers in public health and social services.

This position would teach classes in the Addiction and Recovery Counseling Program and may be able to teach in other certificate and general education classes if eligible.

The ideal candidate will share the colleges commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population and be knowledgeable about culturally responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging diverse communities who are historically underrepresented and underserved in traditional classrooms.

Job Duties

1. Teach Health Education certificate program and/or general education courses, based on minimum qualifications. Refer to the CCSF catalog or visit http://www.ccsf.edu/hlthed for a complete listing.

2. Teach in-person day, evening, weekend, and/or online/hybrid classes at one or more sites.

3. Perform duties associated with instructing and assessing student progress including, but not limited to: developing a syllabus, grading, record-keeping, student learning outcome assessments, designing written lesson plans, classroom activities and using technology enhanced teaching.

4. Respond to student disciplinary issues and work with supervisor and other appropriate campus offices to ensure that student and faculty rights are respected.

5. Participate in department and college functions, such as staff meetings, committee work, curriculum development, course revisions and course assessments.

6. Be available and accessible to students when necessary.

7. Support and engage in an innovative culture of culturally responsive, inclusive and anti-racist practices as it relates to student success with an awareness of student equity gaps.

8. Participate in ongoing training on diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism to center pedagogy.

9. Perform other related duties including non-instructional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

City College of San Francisco Minimum Qualifications

1. Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with community college students with disabilities, various sexual orientations, and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds (Required).

2. Earned Masters Degree in Health Science, Health Education, Biology, Nursing, Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Dietetics, Nutrition, or Public Health from accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Earned Bachelors Degree in any of the above from an accredited institution AND earned Masters Degree in any Biological Science from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Instructor Credential in Health and Physical Care Services and Related Technologies (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990);
OR
Earned Masters Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling from an accredited institution; OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Earned Bachelors Degree in the discipline of the assignment from an accredited institution AND a valid California license as a Marriage and Family Therapist ( MFT ); OR THE EQUIVALENT ;
OR
Hold a fully-satisfied LIFE California Community College Counselor Credential (California credentials were no longer issued after July 1, 1990).

Desirable Qualifications
1. Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial, socioeconomic, academic, and cultural diversity within the community college student population, including students with different ability statuses (e.g., physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

2. Successful teaching experience in health education at the post-secondary level.

3. Successful training experience in health education and/or behavioral health/community health/social service/educational/health care settings.

4. Demonstrated ability to motivate learners from diverse backgrounds, especially non-traditional and underrepresented students.

5. Excellent oral and written English communication skills.

6. Related professional experience in the public health, medical and health and social services fields in addition to classroom teaching.

7. Graduate work in health education, counseling, psychology, public health, social work and/or a valid unrestricted state license to practice independently as a mental health provider, LMFT , LCSW , LPCC , or Clinical Psychologist.

8. Prior successful experience with course development and assessment.

9. Relevant expertise and ability to teach content in one or more of the certificate programs such as: addiction and recovery, client centered counseling, case management, group facilitation, community-based public health practice, prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, prevention and maintenance of chronic health conditions, health policy, wellness and recovery models, interpretation and translation services, cultural humility, ethics, and community assessment.

10. Bilingual and bicultural skills preferred.

11. Working knowledge of language access and interpreting skills strongly preferred for the Healthcare Interpreting Program.

12. Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university or college level using culturally responsive pedagogy that leads to equitable outcomes for all students.

13. Demonstrated experience with and knowledge of inequities in higher education and a commitment to rectifying policies and processes that restrict access for historically minoritized and disproportionately impacted students.
