Department/Division Purpose (brief description of main function):
PCCs student success project provides proactive academic advising, career planning, and success coaching for students within academic divisions. Assists students in exploring educational and career goals through academic advising and retention outreach. Tracks student academic progression and completion towards a degree and intentionally intervenes as necessary. Participates in committee assignments and other academic and institutional support activities. Responsible for department projects and services as assigned.

This position specifically exist to apply advanced student development theory and practice to evaluate the academic and social cognitive needs of nursing students in order to identify and implement appropriate support services to ensure student success. This position will utilize intrusive and holistic advising techniques and theories to respond to student performance alerts, refer students to relevant support services, follow-up, track and report all student interactions and updates using EAB Campus, be up-to-date with all instructors, courses, curricula, and career/transfer opportunities as relevant to the nursing program offered at Pueblo Community College. The position will report to the Director of Student Support and Outreach and the Nursing Program Director.

Job Duties

Essential Functions:
Actively monitors reporting systems for alerts relating to students' performance and academic progress by identifying those behaviors which indicate a lack of academic success preparedness. Success Coaches analyze retention and attrition data to identify trends and potential solutions and collaborate with faculty to resolve student issues relating to academic performance by utilizing professional practices in a case management model to include operating in both an individual and collaborative team approach to identify resolutions to student barriers.
Utilizes standardized reporting practices to accurately documents interactions, evaluations, referral and conversations with nursing students within the Navigate platform.
Based on professional knowledge and expertise, prepares and implements intervention plans to work with students by connecting them with support agencies (internally and externally) and other resources to improve academic performance and support the social-cognitive needs of students. Provides timely feedback to students about their academic progress and refers students for academic skills assistance, such as tutoring, career guidance, and disability resources. Draws upon support services such as advising, financial aid, and targeted student resources. Uses expertise and advanced knowledge of community and internal support resources to determine best support services to meet student needs. Applies and/or seeks understanding of various cultures to best support student success.
Provides guidance and counsel to students for navigating academic and non-academic resources on campus, online and in the community.
Meets with nursing students on an individual basis and provides proactive/case management advising, monitors student academic progress towards a credential and intervenes as needed by utilizing intrusive advising theory and techniques. Employs resources and methods to promote student retention through the use of advanced knowledge in learning styles and learning disabilities to direct students in approaches to improve learning outcomes or seek appropriate accommodations.
May serve as instructor for college success courses
Collaborates in orientation and student onboarding activities through Navigate and maintains knowledge of the curricula for PCC degrees, certificates, and courses as well as current knowledge of PCC policies and procedures for admissions, enrollment, and completing a program of study
Serve as liaison to the nursing department and faculty.
Utilizes report, tracking, assessment, and communication technologies (specifically EAB Navigate) to implement proactive activities for case management. Identifies advising trends and works collaboratively to recommend enhancements to advising processes.

Non-Essential Functions:
Participates in retention events, advising sessions at orientation, and other activities that promote student success.
Assists the Nursing Program Director with coordination of meetings/events/trainings/reporting.
Communicate with faculty to discuss student status and identify resources to assist students

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor's Degree

Licenses or Certificates:
None

Experience:
Two years of experience working with students in an environment such as social services, education or health related fields.
Experience tracking and reporting data
Experience successfully working as part of a team
Experience in and commitment to working with culturally diverse populations.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of case management techniques.
Ability to use good judgment and work effectively under pressure.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to work individually or in groups
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ability to develop and deliver presentations to students, faculty, and administrators.
Ability to successfully build, foster, and maintain professional relationships.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
 


Preferred Qualifications

Education:
Master's Degree

Licenses or Certificates:
None

Experience:
Five or more years of experience working at a college or university, in areas such as Instruction, Student Life, Advising, Coaching, TRIO, health programs.
Experience working with at-risk populations
Experience tracking and reporting data and following-up with clients


Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Knowledge of and experience using learning management systems.
Knowledge of and experience using EAB Navigate.
Skill in effectively using WebEx or other virtual meeting software.
Knowledge of community resources.
Skill in multitasking and managing multiple projects/cases and deadlines.
Exceptional customer service skills and ability to manage difficult situations.
Knowledge of learning styles and learning disabilities and associated accommodations.
Bilingual in Spanish and English.
