SUMMARY

The Disability Support Services (DSS) Testing Proctor is responsible for the coordination and operations of the Disability

Testing Center. The Disability Testing Center provides testing accommodations for qualified GRCC students. The

The Disability Testing Center is part of the overall operations of the DSS department. This person sits at the Testing Center and is the primary professional responsible for various aspects of processing and proctoring tests. The day to day

responsibilities of this position include checking in students, answering phones, scheduling appointments, supporting

student employees, managing the coordination of a variety of tests, ensuring confidentiality, accessibility and test

security, placing orders for alternative textbooks, demonstrating assistive technology to students, and generally

ensuring that testing accommodations approved by DSS are implemented as required under the Americans with

Disabilities Act. This position must interact effectively in a fast paced, high traffic environment that works with students,

faculty and staff.

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide a friendly, supportive and welcoming student experience and environment while demonstrating

highest level of confidentiality and appropriate discretion.

  • Schedule, administer and monitor testing accommodations including: test reading, scribing, print enlargement,

as well as set up various technologies used during test taking.

  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality with student accounts and information.
  • Understand the nature of the ADA and the importance of timely accommodations.
  • Adhere to GRCCs testing standards while meeting ADA accommodation requirements and verify student

eligibility for services.

  • Manage and resolve routine problems and conflicts for test takers, staff and DSS employees.
  • Hiring and training student employees to support testing operations.
  • Serve within the DSS Office, by providing information about the testing accommodations process, reporting

testing anomalies, and working with counselors/advisors to teach policies and procedures to students.

  • Assist other offices on campus with guidelines to ensure uniformity of accommodated testing.
  • Provide touble-shooting assistance, when required, including fixing technical problems and/or contacting the

appropriate technical hotline or GRCC IT Support.

  • Manipulate Word, PDF, print and audio tests in order to convert documents to the most accessible format.
  • Create and maintain effective communication among students, faculty and staff regarding testing procedures

and the accommodation process.

  • Be available for disability testing issues during assigned work schedule.
  • Answer telephone, check voicemail and email daily, taking action as needed.
  • Manage resolution of routine student service issues using sound judgment and coordinate resolution of

significant student service issues with the appropriate supervisor and staff.

  • Align work with Academic Testing Center and work in collaboration with Academic Testing Center staff.
  • Seek ongoing professional development of test center security and management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by DSS Supervisor or Assistant Dean of Student Success.
  • Regular attendance during scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for performing the essential

functions of this position.

 

Marginal Job Functions

  • Assure access to alternative textbooks by obtaining quotes, ordering from publisher or textbook supplier.
  • Alternative textbook creation using scanning and OCR process when no other option is available.
  • Print transcripts, schedules, and other student record information as requested.
  • Provide limited support to students by troubleshooting technology and alternative format issues, contacting IT when necessary.
  • Assist IT in the review of purchase requests and adaption of new adaptive/assistive technologies to be used in the DSS Testing Center.

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education/License

  • Associates degree or comparable combination of relevant education and experience required.

 

Work Experience

  • A minimum of three years of testing or other customer service experience required, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Some experience related to disability, accessibility and access related technology preferred.
  • Finalists must possess excellent proofreading skills and have aptitude for detailed work. A skills assessment may be required.

Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of ADA and related laws and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population which includes individuals with disabilities.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) Gmail Suite required,

recommended PeopleSoft, Image Now and other database systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and master new software and software systems.
  • Ability to efficiently conduct a test administration from beginning to end.
  • General knowledge of the principles of testing including test security, confidentiality and appropriate discretion.

  • Must be able to visually observe testers behaviors and actions via video and screen sharing to ensure test integrity.
