CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
JOB ANNOUNCEMENT – NOVEMBER 2018
Second Harvest Food Bank seeks a visionary and community-oriented leader with experience to provide the strategic direction and inspire the public and private support necessary to fulfill its mission.
Second Harvest Food Bank (SHFB) is a leading organization in the fight to end hunger in Orange County. Since its founding in 1983, SHFB has distributed more than 418 million pounds, or the equivalent of 354 million meals, to the Orange County community. Last year, SHFB provided a record 25.1 million meals for the hungry. In 2016, SHFB launched an aggressive five-year strategic plan aimed at increasing the number of meals provided annually to 30 million by 2021, which will put them on pace to close the meal gap by 2024, ultimately ending hunger for Orange County residents. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) plays a critical role in driving the strategic plan to fruition. The Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic leader with the following qualities:
Passion for SHFB’s mission and a drive to eliminate food insecurity
Leadership experience, both with teams and boards
High level of sophistication in all aspects of resource development and donor relations
Working knowledge of local and regional nonprofit and philanthropic community
Strengths in public speaking, coalition-building, community engagement, and facilitating collaborative initiatives
With a commitment to embody SHFB’s core values of Compassion, Integrity, Stewardship, Service Excellence, and Diversity, the CEO works in concert with the Board of Directors to provide leadership, planning, and management to effectively accomplish SHFB’s mission of ending hunger. Reporting to the Board, the CEO has overall strategic and day-to-day operational and programmatic responsibility, ensures financial solvency of the organization, and ensures the development of and adherence to sound management practices and procedures throughout the organization. The CEO is SHFB’s chief advocate for the mission within the organization, in the community, and with all stakeholder groups. Direct reports include the Chief Operating Officer, Chief Development Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Director of Marketing & Public Relations, and Executive Assistant.
Minimum position requirements include: a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or a related field (advanced degree and professional certifications preferred); 10 or more years progressive experience in an executive or managerial capacity leading a multi-faceted organization with public, private, or nonprofit sector constituents and a variety of stakeholders; responsibility for an annual budget of $5M+; proven leadership in one or more of the following areas: administration and management, resource development/fundraising, and organizational development.
This position is full-time exempt with a competitive benefit package. Salary range is $175,000 to $225,000 with potential for bonus.
