Operations Manager

Job Description

OPERATIONS MANAGER, Venture Mentoring Service (VMS), to oversee VMS mentoring, offices hours, seminars, and events and assist the Outreach program and MIT I-Corps as needed.  Will work with the assistant director and director to ensure the sustained delivery of world-class educational services to aspiring entrepreneurs in the MIT community.  Responsibilities include implementing and overseeing day-to-day operational activities; managing the mentee intake process; overseeing the scheduling and presentation of seminars/office hours/events; providing subtle yet firm leadership to 200 volunteer mentors and keeping them engaged; database/records management; developing and maintaining relationships with MIT’s entrepreneurial ecosystem; identifying additions, deletions and modifications to VMS seminar and office hour offerings; selecting and vetting instructors and participants and overseeing promotion and event presentation; maintaining and monitoring systems/processes to capture feedback; leading weekly staff meetings and other interactions;  providing day-to-day guidance/leadership to program assistants and temporary staff/interns; collaborating on implementing programs to support goals and drive the overall business strategy; managing first-level support for office computers and office space maintenance; developing and maintaining relationships with professional/academic organizations outside MIT; and tracking media exposure of VMS activities.  

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  B.S. degree; at least three years’ administration/operations experience in a mid- to large-size program; excellent project management, interpersonal, sales, presentation, and oral and written communication skills; and strong technical skills with broad application ability.  Must be able to interact effectively with Outreach peers, entrepreneurs, mentors, and VMS staff; multitask and manage multiple concurrent projects; set and adjust priorities; work independently and as a team member; and interact effectively with organizations/individuals from various cultures and backgrounds.  PREFERRED:  knowledge of MIT and other entrepreneurship and innovation organizations.  Job #22533-8
