Job Description

Description of Duties: Develop and teach undergraduate mathematics courses to include developmental mathematics through differential equations. Curriculum development is also an essential part of this position's responsibilities and will be performed in a collaborative manner with the Mathematics Program Coordinator. Report directly to the Dean, Engineering and Science Division. Teach assigned courses in accordance with the course syllabi and the schedule of classes; administer final exams in accordance with published schedule unless an exception is approved in writing by the Division Dean. Participate in the revision of existing course syllabi or write new ones. Cooperate with other professors in carrying out instructional procedures agreed upon. Recommend textbook changes. Maintain daily attendance records of students. Maintain accurate scholastic records of students enrolled in classes and submit grade reports according to the schedule of the Division Dean. Assist as assigned by the Division Dean as a member of faculty committees. Attend scheduled faculty meetings. Teach a minimum of fifteen credit hours per semester. Schedule at least 12.5 office hours per week and post on the faculty member's office door. Provide a copy of office hour schedule to the Division Dean. Carry out other duties as assigned by the Division Dean or Mathematics Program Coordinator. Maintain the same high standards of excellence for directed-study and on-line courses as the standards applied in the regular classroom. When laboratories and classrooms are open, it is the responsibility of the professor involved to supervise student use of these facilities. If the professor cannot be present, arrangements for supervision must be made with another faculty member, laboratory supervisor, or the Division Dean. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Division Dean. May supervise hourly and/or work study employees. Work under limited supervision. Receive training and guidelines from the Division Dean.

Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in the discipline or related area, OR Master's Degree plus 18 graduate hours in the discipline. Two (2) years teaching experience. Excellent oral/written communication skills are needed to interact with and teach students of varying socio-economic backgrounds and skill levels. A successful candidate will be able to plan and carry out effective instructional lessons and utilize instructional technology. Proficiency with computers and MS Office (Word and Outlook). Light carrying up to 10 lbs and light lifting up to 10 lbs required. Ability to reach above shoulder. Periods of time spent sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending and stooping. Mobility to move from building to building on-campus and to visit off-campus sites/facilities.

Desired Qualifications: Three (3) years college-level teaching experience. Experience/education/training related to working at a community college. A profound desire to teach freshman and sophomore level mathematics courses. Experience using laboratories/computers to supplement classroom instruction. Proficiency with the use of computer software applications in teaching mathematics courses. An earned PhD in Mathematics or closely related discipline.
