The Coordinator of Career and Transfer Services is partially funded by Perkins Grant funds to support Career and Technical Education (CTE) students, Federal Job Location funds, and Corning Community College. The Career and Transfer Services Coordinator develops and implements career and college transfer services activities within the college. Oversees the planning and implementation of these activities. Coordinates with employers and transfer colleges to ensure students/graduates are prepared to be competitive candidates for job placement. This position is required to hold hours at both the Spencer Hill Corning campus and the Academic and Workforce Development Center in Elmira, NY. Additionally, occasional meetings at different CCC locations and in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required. Incumbent must perform the essential duties and responsibilities with or without reasonable accommodation in a typical office environment. Essential Functions

Transfer Services - 35%


  • Oversee the transfer college resources, including the annual transfer college fair and the Advisor in Residence program.
  • Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to identify potential transfer opportunities, partner with bachelor degree institutions to identify appropriate/best fit transfer programs, and promote these options to students.
  • Ensure the student population is aware of the transfer application process and deadlines.
  • Offer workshops and presentations on topics related to the transfer process.
  • Provides transfer advising and training to other staff (e.g. Enrollment Advising Specialists, faculty, and WEAP staff).
Career Awareness and Assessment - 25%
  • Oversee the development and implementation of career awareness programs to assist undecided, matriculated students (including non-traditional students) to be aware of and identify appropriate career path and academic program of study.
  • Oversight of the career decision making process assisting students, especially those who are undecided, identify appropriate career/academic areas of interest based on assessments, individual one-on-one meetings, and group workshops.
  • Opportunities could include teaching Career Planning courses.
Workforce Readiness/Job Search Services -20%
  • Advise students on various aspects of workforce readiness including the job search process, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
  • Coordinate the annual job fair.
Employer Outreach - 10%
  • Develop relationships with potential employers to develop job placement opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Manage job postings and ensure student awareness of job opportunities.
Online Presence - 5%
  • Maintain Career and Transfer Services online resources and information. This includes the public website and the student portal career and transfer services areas.
Administrative (5%)
  • Responsible for tracking student job/transfer outcomes and usage of career and transfer services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Knowledge and experience working with student development, career development, and counseling practices and theories.
  • Strong knowledge of career-related services and student focused programming
  • Understanding of college transfer process.
  • Ability to interact effectively with private sector employers.
  • Ability to work effectively to meet deadlines and demonstrate good judgment.
  • Technical skills including Microsoft Office: Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; and Google: Docs, Sheets, Calendar.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Demonstrates commitment to accomplishing work in an ethical, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
  • Ability to effectively convey information verbally and in writing, demonstrate effective listening skills, and display respect for and openness to other peoples ideas and thoughts.
  • Ability to accept changes to job requirements, policies, workload, etc., as well as learn new methods, procedures, or techniques resulting from change with the ability to clearly approach problems and find solutions.
  • Demonstrates support for the Colleges goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and culturally aware community and practicing anti-racist/biased behaviors.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Associates degree
  • Familiarity with career development theories or career counseling practices
  • 1 year of professional work experience, preferably in job development, career counseling, or a related area

Preferred Qualification:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in student personnel, counseling, or closely related field, with an emphasis on career counseling
  • Two years of work experience in job development, career counseling, employer relations, or in a workforce system using a case management model; experience with transfer services.
