The Assistant Coordinator for Student Advising Services is a faculty ranked position. The Assistant Coordinator provides comprehensive advising to students, develops and implements advising training and services, serves as the Veterans Administration School Certifying Official and the Colleges Chief Transfer Officer, and leads the implementation of the colleges Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). QEP coordination includes leading, managing, and coordinating the student onboarding and advising programs, policies and processes; serving as the primary new student advisor; facilitating with faculty and others the creation, assessment, and reporting of assignments, projects, and activities to assess student learning in relation to the QEP; and forming and leading the colleges Advising Workgroup. The Assistant Coordinator reports to the Coordinator for Student Services.
- Provide comprehensive career, education, and transfer advising services to prospective and new students.
- Serve as the Veterans Administration School Certifying Official.
- Serve as the Colleges Chief Transfer Officer.
- Administer the colleges Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), Advising GPS: Go-Plan-Succeed, to promote student success.
- Through the QEP, develop and implement advising programs, policies, and processes that promote matriculation, persistence, and graduation for a diverse population of students.
- Lead the creation and implementation of assignments, projects, and activities to assess student learning in relation to the QEP.
- Develop and submit all assessment reports, as related to the Colleges QEP.
- Create and lead the Colleges new Advising Workgroup, which will facilitate coordination between advisors and personnel with advising support roles.
- Serve as the primary new student advisor for students in career/technical and transfer programs, and provide academic planning and career advisement.
- Develop and implement a plan for continued professional development for all advisors and coaches.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Masters degree in education or student services related field.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and advise students of diverse backgrounds and needs in a higher education setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with student retention strategies and initiatives.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college, particularly as it relates to advising and student support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of student assessment, education and career planning, registration, and retention principles and practices.
- Demonstrated oral, written, and group communication and customer relations skills.
- Demonstrated skills in the use of contemporary computer application software to include word processing and spreadsheets, and other information technology applications such as those that manage college student information data.
- Masters degree in college counseling, student development, or higher education, preferred.
- Experience advising students, preferred.
- Community college experience, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with student retention strategies and initiatives, preferred.
- Experience in providing leadership in developing and implementing new projects, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and use of social media as it relates to student enrollment and outreach, preferred.
