SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. Interested in a career assisting students with academic success and educational planning?

SVCC is seeking an Education Coordinator to manage the operations and activities at the Southern Virginia Education Center (SVEC) associated with Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) functions in order to assist students with college onboarding, academic success, educational planning, community resources, and wraparound support. The incumbent will support the goals and objectives of Southside Virginia Community College's Strategic Plan.

The SVEC Education Coordinator will provide comprehensive student services including enrollment management, recruitment, retention, admissions, registration, financial aid, advising, student conduct, community outreach, emergency response, and center operations. This position leads in the creation of a student-centered learning environment, as well as a culture of professionalism, operational effectiveness, continuous improvement, teamwork, inclusiveness and respect among students, faculty, staff, and external college stakeholders. The coordinator serves as the primary SVCC contact for programmatic offerings at the SVEC and collaborates with other college personnel on matters related to student service and instructional delivery, credit, and non-credit class scheduling.

Some of the duties include, but are not limited to:

 
Site Management
  • Provide day-to-day on-site supervision for facility operations, reception/information functions, scheduling of classrooms and other relevant spaces
  • Coordinate with security and maintenance to help ensure the safety and upkeep of the site
  • Routinely analyze and evaluate site operations to maintain overall operational quality and excellent customer service, conferring with operational unit supervisors when appropriate
  • Serve as the central point of contact for emergency management communications, functions, and activities
  • Coordinate with academic affairs and workforce program leadership to make data-informed decisions that support effective course/program scheduling patterns at the site
 
 
Student Support
  • Provide direct, student-centered services in the areas of admissions, outreach, recruitment, enrollment, financial aid, and advising
  • Supervise the delivery of student services for the site to address student needs with a combination of in-person, online, and technical resources
  • Serve as a Student Judicial Officer to address student issues or concerns; responsible for serving as the first point of contact for student complaints at the center
  • Plan and implement career fairs, and other student/guest-related gatherings and events to bolster the visibility and viability of the center
  • Initiate and maintain partnerships with various SVCC service departments and stay current with all policies and procedures for the purpose of addressing time-sensitive student requests
  • Collaborate with the Student Experience Department to ensure operational quality in areas of recruitment, onboarding, new student orientation, and student activities
 
Program Management & Evaluation
  • Manage part-time and full-time staff as appropriate, creating a relational team that reflects the college's values, supporting the transformative student experience
  • Provide intentional cross-training protocols for continuous improvement and professional development for staff
  • Responsible for developing the site operational budget and implementing actions to meet strategic plan objectives
  • Continuously assess and evaluate the effectiveness of programs and activities; use assessment results to continuously improve systems and student experiences
  • Use enrollment data and trend analysis to recommend and advocate for credit and workforce course offerings at the center
 
 
External Relations
  • Coordinate with college stakeholders to support external partnerships with the community that promote program delivery for dual enrollment, workforce development and student success
  • Serve as a college-wide, primary point of contact and conduit for information and communication related to the SVEC
  • Design, implement and lead highly visible, year-round targeted student recruitment functions and engagement activities at the center
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with alumni, community organizations, businesses, high schools, and colleges/universities to maximize educational pathway, new student recruitment, and experiential learning opportunities
  • Present information to faculty, college leadership, corporate/industry leaders, K-12 partners, and public groups as applicable
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in related field or a combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Valid drivers license
  • Experience working with racially, ethnically, economically and age-diverse individuals
  • Knowledge of admissions requirements, registration and enrollment processes, outreach and recruitment, financial aid opportunities and applicable federal guidelines, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
  • Knowledge and experience managing facility operations
  • Experience with the provision of student services
  • Recent, professional supervisory experience
  • Ability to effectively solve problems and proactively deal with emergency situations as they arise
  • Knowledge of barriers to educational success and a desire to help others reach their educational goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills to help engage, provide support to, and motivate students
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills, including the ability to effectively follow-up and follow-through
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate legal compliance in the areas of budget development and monitoring, confidentiality, records management, and financial reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to demonstrate ethical conduct and professionalism
  • Demonstrated ability to respond meaningfully to the needs of individuals with respect, sensitivity, and civility
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel, give instructions to others; arrive at decisions, develop conclusions and solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, other departments, students, and the public
  • Demonstrated ability to present materials effectively to individual students or groups
  • Demonstrated ability to independently proactively plan, organize and implement assigned responsibilities and to work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment and discretion; ability to manage multiple projects
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to display self-confidence, patience, empathy, and availability when building rapport with students
  • Demonstrated technology aptitude to routinely use Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Google Docs, PeopleSoft, CRM/ERP and retention-based software
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree
  • Higher education work experience in areas of student advising, recruitment, counseling, academic support, or other related student support roles
  • Experience in using CRM/ERP and/or Retention Software, PeopleSoft, Navigate and/or other technologies
