Job Description
Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCCs institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Position Summary:
The Virginia Beach Campus Student Center provides a quality space and program opportunities for students to study, relax, play, exercise, learn and interact with other students, staff and the Hampton Roads Community. The Student Center Assistant will monitor these spaces, facilities these activities, interact with students to create an out-of-the classroom environment that is safe, clean, inclusive, and inviting for the entire student population. Additionally, the Student Center Assistant is responsible for maintaining a positive experience for guests of the student center by providing excellent customer service, and through assisting with the set-up of the various conference spaces.

The Student Center Assistant will monitor these spaces, facilities these activities, interact with students to create an out-of-the classroom environment that is safe, clean, inclusive, and inviting for the entire student population. Additionally, the Student Center Assistant is responsible for maintaining a positive experience for guests of the student center by providing excellent customer service, and through assisting with the set-up of the various conference spaces.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Provide customer service in reserved spaces, gymnasium, fitness room, and game rooms
Review daily setup report and ensure that rooms are setup according to report
Provides customer service during evening hours
Ability to work independently
Report participation and attendance data to supervisors
Create social media advertisements and printed promotional materials
Perform routine maintenance and clean fitness, recreation and gaming equipment
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, recreation equipment, fitness equipment, recreation equipment, and furniture used in reserved spaces
Report facility and event issues to appropriate personnel. Provide feedback and input on ways
to improve processes and services.
Immediate notification to proper professional staff in the event of an emergency situations, disturbances, or alarms within the center.
Conduct walkthroughs of 3rd floor classroom/conference space
Other duties that may be assigned
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of Tidewater Community College policies and procedure
- Knowledge of Student Center facility
Knowledge of Event Services Provided at VBS- Knowledge of event planning, set-up and tear down
Knowledge of conference planning
Skill in exceptional oral and written communication
Skill in operating a computer using (email, Microsoft word, EMS)
Ability to work a flexible schedule consistent with the hours of the operation of the Virginia Beach Student Center
Demonstrated ability to prioritize duties in a fast paced, dynamic environment
Ability to relate to and work easily with others; to be personable and project a positive attitude to be outgoing and establish a positive first impression.
Ability to perform active listening and demonstrate an understanding of customer concerns and needs-being relational.
