General Description of Position:

Online Adjunct Faculty are hired each semester on an as-needed basis. Online Adjunct Faculty are responsible for creating an online learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of the provided single version master course. Courses are taught completely online in primarily 8-week (rarely 16-week) format.


Major Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate student learning by delivering assigned classes in accordance with College policy and course objectives. IvyOnlines minimum expectations for Online Adjunct Faculty are found in the Academic Support and Operations Manual, Policy 7.5.2. Online Adjunct Faculty are also encouraged to review and implement best practices from the online teaching best practices list.
  • Make optimal use of available technology to enhance instructional methods.
  • Supplement and alter, where appropriate, lesson plans, assignments, tests, and materials. Maintain accurate student records, grades, and other requirements.
  • Engage with students proactively and regularly in meaningful and productive ways that impact student learning and lead to a positive experience with Ivy Tech Community College.
  • Demonstrate evidence of developing and implementing teaching strategies focused on engaging online students with their learning.
  • Interact with students and co-workers in a professional and cooperative manner, complying with College policies, guidelines and expectations.
  • Maintain a safe, quality online educational environment.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees in which every individual feels respected and valued.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have strong working knowledge of current technologies appropriate to area of instruction and meet faculty credentials as outlined in the ASOM 7.1 (see link below) for the specific area(s) of instruction.

  • Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution and has two of the following:

    • A portfolio that demonstrates significant involvement as a practicing designer or architect

    • Professional certification in the field; or

    • Two years of directly related work experience, or

    • Completed academic preparation appropriate to the program

or

  • Possesses an earned associate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution and two of the following:

    • Five years of directly related work experience

    • a portfolio that demonstrates significant involvement as a practicing designer, architect, or artist

    • appropriate certification in the course being taught

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Online Teaching Experience


Other Requirements:

Proficiency with Google Workspace (G Suite)

Experience (or willingness to master) the Canvas learning management system
