The Senior Student Services Assistant for DSPS is responsible for providing supportive services to the DSPS program. This is a 40-hour work week, Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. - 6p.m. and Fridays 8 a.m.- 3 p.m., 12-month contract. This position will be housed in the DSPS Department and is under the direction of the DSPS Coordinator. Mesa College is located in Clairemont Mesa in San Diego and is one of three colleges in the San Diego Community College District. DSPS is the department on campus that authorizes academic accommodations in the classroom and clinical setting. DSPS assists the college in adhering to state and federal mandates for individuals with disabilities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with individuals with disabilities and the state and federal mandates pertaining to individuals with disabilities.
  • Interpreting and applying policies and regulations within a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, ability, and experience preparing and presenting reports of services.
  • Knowledge about budget monitoring and projection.
  • Knowledge and the ability to identify students experiencing challenges, including monitoring, evaluating progress, and increasing retention.
  • Establish and maintain collegial working relationships with students, faculty, staff, administration, community agencies and educational institutions.
  • Knowledge and/or skill in the use of computer technology, applies emerging technologies, and ability to utilize technology in promoting and enhancing services to students.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience that would indicate sensitivity, understanding, and ability to work with special populations, as well as the diverse academic, socio- economic, disability, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Assist targeted students to meet their key needs, with a particular focus on financial aid, housing, and community resources.




Licenses:

Pay Information:
Range 19 ($3,838.95 - $5,836.03) per month based on the current Classified salary schedule. New employees will begin on Step B ($3,838.95) or up to Step C ($4,030.89) with 36 months of verified, paid, full-time equivalent related job experience. For purposes of salary placement, 7.5 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of directly related coursework from a regularly accredited institution will be equivalent to one (1) year of job experience. Promoted or transferred employees will be placed as specified in the CBA. This position is FLSA Non-exempt (may accrue overtime). Excellent Benefits are provided to all Contract employees with assignments greater than, or equal to, 50% (0.50 FTE) and all eligible dependents. A temporary probationary period will apply to the employee entering this assignment.
