Summary

THIS IS A FULL-TIME (40HRS/WEEK) ONE-YEAR TERM-LIMITED APPOINTMENT

(JUNE 2023 - JUNE 2024)

Dr. Lindsay Bornheimer is accepting applications for a Mental Health Therapist and Clinical Research Coordinator position with funding for two years from June 2023 to June 2025, and potential for continuation. This position combines both clinical and research skills in social work and mental health, and is ideal for an individual interested in pursuing training for a full LMSW license (i.e., one who holds a LLMSW) or possible doctoral education in social work or a related mental health field (e.g., PhD). Candidates holding a MSW degree with interest in community-based mental health practice and research, delivering therapy, serious mental illness, and suicide prevention are encouraged to apply. 

This full-time position (40 hours/week) involves both clinical and research hours:

  • 75% of time is allocated to delivering therapy as a mental health clinician (therapist) at Washtenaw County Community Mental Health (WCCMH). Clinical supervision and training will be provided. 
  • 25% of time is allocated to coordinating and leading recruitment and community outreach efforts in Dr. Bornheimer’s NIMH-funded research study that is taking place at WCCMH. Research training, supervision, and mentorship will be provided. 

Candidates with interest in pursuing LMSW licensure will receive the full 2 years of required post-MSW training, supervision, and clinical hours tailored specifically for preparation to become a fully licensed LMSW social worker. Candidates with interest in pursuing doctoral education in social work, social welfare, clinical psychology, or related fields will also have the potential to receive tailored research training and mentorship in preparation for applying for PhD programs and pursuing a career in academia. 

Dr. Lindsay Bornheimer is an Assistant Professor in the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Her research program focuses on designing and testing mental health treatments and she is currently the principal investigator of a NIMH-funded suicide prevention study at WCCMH. 
 

Responsibilities*

We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and professional individual holding a MSW degree to carry out the following duties and responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:

Clinical duties (75% of position)

  • Delivering clinical therapeutic services (i.e., such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy [DBT] and Cognitive Behavior Therapy [CBT]) with individual and group clients at WCCMH 
  • Conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and engaging in person-centered treatment planning
  • Attending WCCMH staff and team meetings 
  • Engaging in group and individual clinical supervision

Clinical research coordinator duties (25% of position)

  • Leading recruitment efforts for suicide prevention study at WCCMH
  • Coordinating with participants to complete recruitment steps and complete clinical assessments
  • Conducting clinical assessments with client participants to evaluate mental health symptoms
  • Engaging with providers involved as therapists in the study at WCCMH
  • Participating in weekly research team meetings
  • Overseeing undergraduate and graduate student research assistants who are working on this study at WCCMH
     

Required Qualifications*

  • Master’s degree in Social Work (Master of Social Work [MSW] or Master of Science in Social Work [MSSW]) 
  • Active LLMSW or LMSW in the state of Michigan (if graduating soon, LLMSW can be pursued/obtained as part of onboarding activities)
  • Ability to travel to local WCCMH sites

  • Interpersonal practice experience and skills in a mental health setting
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to exercise initiative, independence, and demonstration of clinical and professional judgment
  • At least 1 year of research experience
