Position Specific Details

Working on your feet with some occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs.). Scrubbing pots and pans in a three compartment sink and washing dishes in a under counter machine.

Tues and Weds 5 pm – 10 pm 
Saturday 8 am – 3 pm

Summary Statement

A class incumbent assists in the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen areas, dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.

Nature and Scope

The incumbent works under the close supervision of a technical supervisor and performs various functions to assist in the cleaning of kitchen areas, dishes, post, pans, and utensils. The incumbent may also assist cooks/chefs by opening cans, slicing or chopping food items, etc.

Principal Accountabilities

1. Performs all phases of the dishwashing process according to Delaware Health Department standards.
2. Assists cooks/chefs by performing such tasks as opening cans, slicing/chopping food items, preparing beverages, and lifting and carrying heavy objects.
3. Cleans carts and trash containers; sweeps and mops floors when necessary for safety; wipes tables, steam carts and counters; and performs other functions necessary to ensure that food preparation and serving areas are sanitary.
4. Sets up serving line and tables by gathering and placing utensils, foods, and supplies needed for the serving process when required.
5. Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures applicable to food service. 
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read, write, and follow basic instructions.
Ability to operate food service equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of ten (10) years formal schooling.
