Job Description

Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic
Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees.
Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC
serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign-born
percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties
as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include preparation, teaching and conducting laboratory courses as assigned including but not
limited to development of syllabi; facilitating student learning in classroom and lab settings, recruiting,
advising, tutoring, and evaluating students. Teaching assignments may include some evenings.

Instruction in the following courses may include but not be limited to: Public Speaking, Interpersonal
Communication, Theatre courses e.g. Theatre Appreciation. Minimum of one theatre performance each
semester is required. Related courses may be taught depending on education and experience. The typical
teaching load is 24 credit hours of instruction and theater productions equal to 6 credit hours.

Qualifications
Masters degree in Communications preferred. Bachelors degree with 18 graduate hours in
Communications/Speech/ Theatre or related field accepted. Evidence of thorough and accurate knowledge of
discipline required. Previous teaching instruction in community college or secondary education preferred
along with writing lab experience and knowledge of assessment.
