Basic Statement of Responsibilities
The teacher is responsible for teaching students through formal and informal classroom and/or laboratory/ clinic activities in an atmosphere compatible with the philosophies, goals and objectives of the college. This job description is an addendum to the Faculty Job Description.

Qualifications  
Education, Experience, and Specialized Skills
Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Arts Required, Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Culinary Arts or other related field preferred; ServSafe Certification Required.
Organizational Relationships
  • Culinary Arts Faculty reports directly and is responsible to the Culinary Arts Program Director.
  • This position supervises the Catering and Café Production Assistant.
  • This position interacts closely with students, all other members of the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management Programs, student service areas on campus, and Instructions and Student Affairs office.
Primary Responsibilities/Essential Functions
  • Full-time faculty are required to teach a minimum load of 30 credits per year (15 per semester.) Full-time faculty are required to maintain published office hours and be accessible to students a minimum of 3 hours of non-class time per week each semester. Teaching load to be determined by Program Director.
  • Advises Culinary Arts current and potential students.
  • Plan and conduct classes and/or laboratory periods in a manner that will achieve maximum learning.
  • Distribute, at the beginning of each semester, a syllabus following the standard Allegany College of Maryland format.
  • Meet all scheduled classes and/or labs or, if unable to do so because of emergency or illness, notify the Program Director/Division Chair and/or the Vice President in an attempt to get class coverage or to cancel class(es).
  • Reconcile class rosters with those students in the class or lab. Report discrepancies to the Registration Office.
  • Submit mid-semester and final semester grades to the Registration Office by the specified deadlines.
  • Participate in the faculty evaluation process.
  • Update course material as necessary and incorporate these changes in a revised syllabus submitted to the Vice Presidents office.
  • Attend division/program meetings.
  • Serve on division/program committee(s).
  • Assist in the development of division/program long range plans and goals.
  • Assist in accreditation.
  • Assume some division/program administrative responsibilities, if delegated.
  • Communicate ideas for improving the division/program.
  • Serve as requested, on the divisions/programs Advisory Committee.
  • Adhere to all policies and guidelines of the Culinary Arts Department.
  • Assist with program recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Secondary Responsibilites  
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of (Windows) applications Microsoft Office Suite, and college used software (Learning Management System), written and oral communication skills, independent worker with time management and organizational skills, critical and creative thinking skills. Knowledgeable of work skills and etiquette for work professionalism and classroom subject matter. Ability to implement conflict resolution and to work with a wide diversity of students. Ability to be flexible and work in an occasionally fast paced, stress-filled environment.
Working Conditions
Some of the work is sedentary; also requires standing/walking for long periods of time in a busy foodservice environment. Occasional periods of light to medium work may be required. Travel may be required to other campuses, educational sites, off campus meetings, and training workshops and seminars.
Physical Effort Required
Most of the job is sedentary, occasional periods of light work may be required. Occasional lifting of classroom equipment and restaurant supplies around 20lbs.
