Position Summary:

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College is seeking a Research Assistant to join the growing Institutional Effectiveness & Research team. Under supervision of the Director, this position will serve as the primary contact for incoming data requests and conduct ongoing research and data collection projects related to student and institutional performance and outcomes.

This position is ideal for recent college graduates with a background in social science research, current or prospective graduate students in public administration or policy, or individuals with higher education experience interested in gaining a broad view of college functions and operations.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Associate’s degree with three years’ work experience in data analysis, report writing, or records management in the public sector, or
  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, or other social science discipline with coursework in statistics or research methods, or
  • Studies toward a Master of Public Administration degree from a NASPAA-accredited program.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the use of pivot tables and formulas to merge, review, and analyze information from large datasets.

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Experience working with Datatel Colleague or Entrinsik Informer.

Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (including Word and PowerPoint) and other common office software and systems.
  • Ability to present information clearly and concisely in both written reports and visualizations such as charts and graphs.
  • Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects or assignments effectively, including meeting occasional hard deadlines.
  • Ability to read, understand, and effectively implement written policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in both group and individual settings.
  • Ability to document work processes and maintain file metadata.
  • Possess a positive, professional, and customer-focused outlook in solving problems and working with colleagues.

Institutional Research - Effectiveness

Work Hours:

  • Generally equivalent to an 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week schedule.
  • This position will be based at RCCC’s North Campus in Salisbury, North Carolina, and attendance on-campus is required.
  • Flexible scheduling and remote work options are available contingent upon institutional policies and satisfactory performance.

Duty and Responsibility:

Serve as primary person of contact for data requests, reports, and other information needs for college staff in all operational areas including academics, student services, continuing education, human resources, and accounting and finance.

Duty and Responsibility:

Coordinate long-term data inquiries and research projects, including data collection, recoding, and entry; collecting data from external sources and agencies; and merging or manipulating existing datasets.

Conduct research into areas of need on behalf of the department, including analyzing legislative policies and histories, regulatory or reporting requirements, or current trends in higher education.

Create a wide variety of data reports and visualizations used to support the decision-making needs of the college personnel.

Ensure all data or report requests are responded to promptly and fulfilled in a timely manner.

Maintain the college’s library of Informer reports, including creating, updating, and troubleshooting reports as needed.

Shared responsibility for upkeep of departmental files, including a catalog of other verified data sources used for reporting and research purposes.
