Job Description Summary:

As part of a team, organizes, prepares, implements, evaluates, and delivers New Riverbat Orientation for new students in for-credit Associate’s Degree and Certificate programs.

Job Description:

Job Duties

  • Conducts advising for students attending orientation sessions by reviewing academic program, TSI/college readiness scores, and related information to determine and recommend first semester courses; accurately documents course recommendations; maintains appropriate communication with students during the pre-advising and orientation process. 

  • Reviews student application paperwork to determine and document college readiness based on TSI scores and other relevant information.

  • Delivers group advising orientation sessions at least twice per week. Guides students during virtual and campus-based group advising sessions regarding program selection, class scheduling, navigating ACC systems and resources, registration, TSI compliance, Academic Standards of Progress, adjustment to college life, study habits, career planning, and financial wellness.  

  • Ensures that group advising participants receive credit for attending orientation, coordinate student accommodations for presentations, and provide customer service to orientation participants. 

  • Conducts post-orientation follow-up as needed, working to reschedule non-attendees, assisting students with post-orientation questions, and conducting and reviewing participant feedback surveys

  • Assesses needs for assistance outside of the context of new student orientation and refers students to the appropriate services.

  • Presents information to students regarding paying for college, including grants, scholarships, loans, payment plans, and using the institution’s payment system

  • Encourages participation in and promotes student life opportunities including special interest and cohort groups that are designed to engage students in academic and co-curricular learning.

  • Works with the Orientation Advising Supervisor to schedule orientation sessions, review student RSVPs, and prepare student information for pre-advising.

  • Reviews transcripts and interprets test scores and other information to determine college readiness and compliance with the Texas Success Initiative standards. 

  • Assists with the organization, preparation, implementation, evaluation and delivery of New Student Orientation. 

  • Documents advising recommendations, directives, interventions, and other pertinent information in the district's various information management platforms

  • Provides timely responses to emails and telephone calls regarding program or course issues. 

  • Gathers data and prepares reports on students and activities as required by supervisor or ACC leadership. 

  • Builds and sustains strong relationships within Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, and the ACC District to support guided entry to the first day of class.

  • Participates in campus-wide initiatives and specialized student support programs to contribute to ACC’s mission and Chancellor’s priorities. Assists with special projects, events, and requests as needed and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Keeps current and ensures consistent application of academic policy changes, new program offerings, changes to existing program curriculum and policies, and state specific requirements.

Knowledge

  • Best practices for higher education and enrollment

  • College readiness documentation, college admissions procedures, advising procedures, programs, and courses

  •  Principles of research, public relations, publicity, and especially marketing to new students. 

  •  Student database systems.

  • Salesforce or similar contact management systems. 

Skills

  • Effectively using interpersonal and written communications skills.

  • Effectively using organizational and planning skills.

  •  Working collaboratively. 

  •  Maintaining confidentiality of work-related information and materials. 

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  •  Maintaining an established work schedule. 

  • Ability to analyze and report data. 

Technology Skills

  • Use a variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software. 

  • Use student information and database systems to include Ellucian Colleague and Salesforce. 

Required Work Experience

  • 1 year  related work experience 

Required Education

  • Bachelor's Degree 

Special Requirements

  • Experience with Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) recruiting systems or other contact management systems. 

  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for local Austin area travel.

Physical Requirements

  •  Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment 

  •  Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling

  •  Occasional lifting of objects up to ten pounds

Salary Range

$41,600 - $51,045
