Job Description
The Montgomery College, Adult ESOL & Literacy-GED Special Programs, is currently accepting applications for possible openings as a part-time faculty member teaching In-person ABE/GED classes in an educational setting located within a Maximum Security Correctional Facility. This particular teaching opportunity is part-time and is located at Clarksburg Maximum Security Jail in Boyds, MD. We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated ABE/GED teachers who exhibit a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and demonstrate the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Montgomery College is seeking an adjunct instructor for its in-person ABE/GED classes in an education setting located within a maximum-security correctional facility. The instructor will be responsible for teaching courses related to all areas required for completion of the GED® (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science).
- Class hours are weekdays, 8:00am to 11:00am and 1:00pm to 4:00pm.
- Faculty member will be expected to teach all areas required for completion of the GED® (Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science), both at the GED and pre-GED level.
- Faculty member will be expected to complete detailed, daily reports.
- Faculty member will be required to abide by all College policies and procedures.
- Faculty member will be expected to abide by all policies and procedures set by the Montgomery County Department of Corrections.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor Degree in Education, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies or Science.
- Experience teaching ABE-ASE classes or high school classes.
- Experience working with a diverse population, preferably in a correctional setting.
- Proven experience in delivery of high quality, effective GED® instruction to adult learners.
- Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, inclusion, and multicultural competence in an educational and work environment and must be willing to contribute to the Colleges strategic plan of inclusion.
- Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus)*. Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools. *If you do not have access to a personal computer, please notify the department chair at the time of interview. Subject to available funds, the college may be able to provide temporary access to resources.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States without a sponsor.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in one or more of the areas covered on the GED® exam.
- Experience providing high quality GED® instruction in a correctional setting.
- A background in counseling.
