Teaches introductory and advanced classes to students enrolled in the Machinist Apprentice program in a comprehensive multi-campus community college, and has responsibility for instructing students in accordance with College policy and procedures. This includes maintaining office hours, maintaining professional competence and other college-wide assignments and departmental duties as listed here. The instructor is responsible for curriculum development and maintenance of the machinist apprenticeship curriculum within the DMCAT division, advising and mentoring students in the machinist apprenticeship program.

DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR DUTIES AND TASKS

Teaches introductory and advanced classes to students enrolled in the Machinist Apprentice program in a comprehensive multi-campus community college, and has responsibility for instructing students in accordance with College policy and procedures. This includes maintaining office hours, maintaining professional competence and other college-wide assignments and departmental duties as listed here. The instructor is responsible for curriculum development and maintenance of the machinist apprenticeship curriculum within the DMCAT division, advising and mentoring students in the machinist apprenticeship program.

QUALITIES OF A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE

  • Mastery of assigned CNC machinist apprenticeship subject matter and relevant topics and issues in the teaching
    discipline. 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and colleagues.

  • Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.

  • Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.

  • Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.

  • Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.

  • Appropriate use of the college's learning management system.

The successful candidate must possess and demonstrate skills in the following areas:

Ability to operate CNC mills and lathes, and teach other curriculum relevant to the machinist apprenticeship program at ACC including/but not limited to: shop safety, shop math, inspection, blueprint reading, tolerancing (GDT), machine setup and maintenance. Knowledge of Mastercam, or other CAD/CAM software, equipment and techniques.

REQUIRED:

Documented professional experience working as a CNC machinist using modern tools and techniques.

PREFERRED:

Ability to teach other curriculum relevant to the machinist apprenticeship program at ACC including shop safety, shop math, inspection, blueprint reading, machine setup and maintenance.

Preferred skills and knowledge might also include knowledge of operation of CNC mills and lathes. Experience with manual machining operations. Ability to teach (but not limited to) the following, inspection (hand inspection and CMM), machine maintenance (coolants, lubricants, etc.), machine safety, machining applications (drilling, milling, turning, reaming, tapping, etc.), cutting tool holding and inspection, cutting tool selection, process planning, programming, setup (alignment, machine controls, establish zero).

Salary dependent upon education and related experience.
