Minimum Qualifications

Terminal degree in a discipline appropriate to higher education leadership or master’s degree in the discipline or appropriate to higher education leadership and additional graduate work in higher education or community college leadership, education, or a related education field.

Work Experience

At least five years of senior experience in instructional leadership in higher education; and demonstrated teaching experience in a postsecondary setting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Understanding of and commitment to the concept and philosophy of a learning college;

2. Ability to develop and articulate a vision for developing, improving, and sustaining high-quality academic and career programs and motivate faculty and staff to achieve that vision;

3. Ability to work in collaboration with the Vice President, Chief Academic Officer in developing, sustaining, and improving credit and non-credit educational programs that lead to students’ academic and career success in a comprehensive, urban community college;

4. Understanding of and sensitivity to educational needs and challenges of at-risk and non-traditional students, including minorities, students from low-income backgrounds, international students, and first-generation college students;

5. Understanding of and sensitivity to the professional development and support needs of a highly qualified and professionally diverse teaching faculty including full-time and adjunct instructors;

6. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals;

7. Ability to gain cooperation through discussion and persuasion;

8. Ability to identify, select, energize, supervise, and evaluate effective teaching faculty and administrative and support staff;

9. Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and effective oral and written communication/public relations skills;

10. Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet critical deadlines;

11. Ability to think creatively and put ideas into action;

12. Demonstrated understanding of and experience with integrated student information systems;

13. Personal integrity, honesty, and the ability to maintain confidentiality;

14. Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the philosophy, mission, and purpose of the North Carolina Community College System

Essential Functions

To support the leadership and support of both non-credit and credit-bearing instructional programs assigned to the Academics and Guided Career Pathways Division; to ensure that assigned functions fulfill college goals and objectives; to supervise assigned employees; and to provide highly complex and responsible staff assistance to the Vice President, Chief Academic Officer

Job Duties

1. Provide vision and direction in developing, implementing, assessing, and revising strategic plans for policies and procedures that advance the college’s mission and goals to support a diverse body of students as they pursue their educational goals;

2. Collaborate with the Office of Equity and Inclusion and Teaching-Learning Center to support faculty engagement efforts to close equity gaps and achieve racial equity in credit-bearing and non-credit courses.

3. Collaborate with guided pathways Deans to grow non-credit courses.

4. Support the formulation and implementation of annual and long-range plans for student learning and instructional services, including program planning and assessment activities;

5. Support the development and administration of the annual budget for assigned areas and lead forecasting efforts for long-range resource needs;

6. Supervise the overall curriculum development and renewal of all non-credit and credit-bearing courses and programs; course scheduling; and professional development and renewal for faculty; in accordance with the mission and goals of the college;

7. Maintain awareness in current developments in academics and student learning in community colleges and throughout higher education;

8. Serve on a variety of councils, committees, and task forces; research and develop recommendations related to the college;

9. Represent the department, division, or college in institutional assignments, community activities, and professional opportunities, and uphold such involvement among staff members;

10. Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Vice President, Chief Academic Officer and President.

Required Working Hours

A minimum of a 40-hour work week established to adequately fulfill the assigned duties and responsibilities. Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required. During special events, work hours for any particular day may be changed.

Hiring Range

$72,897 - $86,565; Commensurate with experience and educational attainment.
