Full Job Description

General Function: Under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support and Learning Resources, the Success Coach / Minority Mentor supports the Colleges student success initiatives by providing success coaching, mentoring, advising, and leadership services to students. The minority mentoring coach increases the minority utilization of campus services through deliberate and intentional interactions between students, BCC campus and employees, and the local community.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide academic guidance by assisting a caseload of students in setting and achieving academic and life goals, and monitor their academic progress throughout the year
  • Implement targeted outreach, mentoring, and guidance to minority students through new student orientation and intake advising, success coaching, academic advising, and transfer planning
  • Design and implement programming for minority students that encourage student retention and address student success characteristics such as personal validation, self-efficacy, a sense of purpose, active involvement, social interaction, leadership, and reflective thinking
  • Utilize technology effectively to monitor student progress toward goal/degree completion and document student interactions
  • Work with students to perform academic-related activities, including registration, add/drop, withdraw, and program of study changes
  • Lead College involvement and community outreach efforts related to student diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Serve on committees and provide trainings and presentations related to academic support, advising, student success, retention, and student involvement as needed
  • Participate in college-wide services, events, and activities to promote the growth of the college, including open house and orientation activities, which involve occasional evening and weekend events
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintains knowledge of current trends in higher education student success and other job-related topics.
  • Perform other related duties as required
 
Job Requirements
 
  • Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree preferred
  • Two years of experience in a higher education setting and/or student advising experience
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training and experience preferred
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining a student-centered and effective working relationship with students, faculty, staff and the public
  • Ability to think “outside of the box” and embrace change
  • Ability to communicate effectively, skilled in presenting ideas and concepts orally and in writing
  • Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
