Job Description
The Athletic Academic Advisors primary responsibility is to provide comprehensive academic advising, academic support, and student development services to student-athletes. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with the submission of athletic sport team eligibility, MACCC and NJCAA compliance issues, and acting as an intermediary between faculty, student-athletes, and staff.

Job Duties
1. Advises student-athletes of college academic requirements including admission
requirements, general education requirements, and degree plans.
2. Explains graduation requirements to student-athletes and ensures each student-athlete is on a clear path to graduate with the courses they need.
3. Serves as mentor and intermediary to provide guidance and advice to student athletes on academic, athletic and personal issues. Advises at-risk/probationary student-athletes on achieving good academic standing; ensures student-athletes are accessing tutors and other academic support options.
4. Advises student-athletes on career choices/opportunities and the requisite coursework.
5. Engages student-athletes who have left the College without a degree and recommends plans of action to degree attainment.
6. Monitors the academic progress of assigned student-athletes from matriculation to graduation.
7. Assists in the coordination of academic support services with existing College programs.
8. Provides specific eligibility counseling and academic support to student-athletes to ensure student-athletes are making progress toward educational objectives.
9. Meets with recruits to provide an overview of available academic, career services, and personal development opportunities.
10. Assists in the planning and development of the student-athletes academic schedule to ensure eligibility and compliance with College, MACCC, and NJCAA requirements as well as NCAA transfer requirements.
11. Stays abreast of and assures adherence to NJCAA, MACCC, and College rules and
regulations.
12. Assists with the completion and submission of the Halbrook report and other athletic academic submissions.
13. Distributes reports to coaching staff regarding the progress of assigned student-athletes.
14. May be required to travel and work outside normal business hours (evenings, weekends, and some holidays).
15. Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with College, MACCC, and NJCAA rules.
16. Assists with completing transfer tracking and transfer waiver forms.
17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director.

Mandatory Qualifications
(M1) Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university.
(M2) Strong written, interpersonal, presentation, and oral communication skills.
(M3) Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills.
(M4) An understanding of collegiate sports and what is required for student-athletes to be successful in the classroom.
(M5) The ability to provide academic advisement to all athletes at MGCCC.

Desirable Qualifications
(D1) Masters degree from an accredited college or university.
(D2) Athletic academic advisement of student-athlete experience in a college setting.
(D3) Familiarity of MACCC and NJCAA eligibility guidelines.
(D4) Experience in collegiate athletic compliance.
(D5) Demonstrated competency in technology.
(D6) Familiarity with a multi-campus environment.
(D7) An understanding of and a commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
