Job Description:

The Coordinator, ADA Services designs and implements a college-wide program for disabled students.  Provides sign language interpreting services for deaf/hard of hearing students in the classroom and at other college activities as requested.  This position assists in the supervision of tutors, sign language interpreters, and other lab personnel in the Student Resource Center for ADA Services Department.  Assists in the development and selection of appropriate learning aids and materials. The Coordinator, ADA Services acts as a liaison with faculty, staff, and community organizations serving the disabled; performs sign language interpretation in a variety of settings including:  classroom, programs/activities sponsored by the college and open to the public (including occasional evening/weekend hours), student/teacher conferences, student registration/orientation, and as needed for urgent situations such as those involving campus security or health services; works in teams with other sign language interpreters to translate difficult or lengthy lectures or events; renders the message faithfully, always conveying the content and spirit of the speaker, using the language most readily understood by the person(s) being served; prepares and manages the budget and keeps abreast of legislation affecting the disabled.  Seeks funding to develop and expand services; and adheres to the RID Code of Ethics. This position reports to the Director, ADA Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree in counseling, psychology, rehabilitation or closely related field, and three years appropriate full-time experience are required. Successful results of a background check are required.

Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations.  Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position.  A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.

ANNUAL SALARY:  $35,700.00 – $42,500.00
