Senior Financial Analyst

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.
 
Job Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for preparing and analyzing internal and external financial data of considerable complexity requiring independent judgment, initiative, and extensive knowledge of the College, accounting, HCC policies and procedures, and external agencies.  Completes analyses and makes recommendations as appropriate.  Completes related accounting functions and monitors HCC’s financial processes.  Monitors performance, revisions and College adherence for all operating and auxiliary funds.  Analyzes and reports statistical revenue and expenditure data to HCC administrators, and state and federal agencies for financial planning and decision-making.

 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assist in the preparation of HCC’s financial statements in conformance with: Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), HCC’s Investment Policy and State of Texas Public Funds Collateral Act.

 

Meet with division clients to elicit and manage business requirements for potential reports and models. 

 

Analyze complex financial data, and extract and define relevant information, interpret data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability. 

 

May coordinate and assume a leadership role in the development of the College’s financial activities and analyze patterns and project expenditures.

 

May assist in the development of regulatory and ad hoc management and statistical reports.

 

Prepare and maintain moderately complex financial reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis, for all College funding (including quarterly and annual cash flow and capital project funds).

 

May provide guidance, assistance or training to division clients and other analysts as needed.

 

Continuously monitor, analyze and report financial transactions and report shortfalls.

 

Exchange information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills.

 

Confer with appropriate internal and external administrative offices, and local, state and federal regulatory agencies to ensure required policies and procedures are followed, provide instruction and answer questions relating to procedures and serve as liaison between College departments. 

 

Determine and design the approach or strategy necessary to implement client requirements using application development tools or in conjunction with data and functionality resident in PeopleSoft.

 

Support department users to meet automated financial, budgeting, business, statistical, and forecasting needs.

 
Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience              
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field required
  • Master’s in Business Administration preferred
  • 5 years of related experience required
  • Additional education may be considered in lieu of some experience       
  • Proficiency in the use of software applications and databases required
Licensing & Certification

Working Conditions

General office.  May frequently be required to walk; stand; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.  Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator.  Manual dexterity, ability to lift up to 25 pounds, ability to reach and bend, and use 2-step stool while safely lifting and lowering boxes.  Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events.  May be required to work after hours to include weekends and holidays.
