General Notes

In partnership with The University of Texas System, the Department of History at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for The University of Texas Chancellor’s Fellowship. A postdoctoral fellowship, the fellow will work closely with the Chancellor and his team, principally conducting research, and writing on topics of importance to the Chancellor in his capacity as chief executive of The University of Texas System and a state and national leader in higher education. 

A PhD in History is required.  The postdoctoral fellowship is for one-year; it may be renewed for an additional year upon agreement of the Chancellor and the incumbent fellow. This position is benefits eligible. The fellow will have his or her principal work location at the UT System Administration Building and will have the opportunity for flexible scheduling in the office. The fellow’s assignments and day-to-day activities will be the responsibility of the Office of the Chancellor

Responsibilities

  • Support the Chancellor and members of his team on speeches, advocacy pieces, articles, and other publications in a variety of media.  

  • Work on various opportunities for public events, discussions, and effective use of media on higher education issues.


Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in History received no more than three years prior to the start date.


Salary Range

$55,000-$70,000, depending on qualifications and experience.

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
