Description

In accordance with the organizational chart and overall plan of Vance-Granville Community College, the Director of College and Career Readiness reports to the Dean of Workforce Readiness, Health, and Public Safety. The Director of College and Career Readiness is responsible for overseeing the instructional programs and financial budgets of the College and Career Readiness (CCR). Direct, coordinate, supervise, oversee financial budgets, and evaluate all functions of the College and Career Readiness programs, Adult High School (AHS), High School Equivalency (HSE), English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), and Prison programs to ensure that standards for program integrity and accountability are being met.

This position is assigned to the VGCC Henderson Campus; although, some travel to other counties in the colleges service area is possible. Consistent with VGCCs Teleworking Policy, This position required a minimum of 16 hours a week on campus and has the potential to telework up to 24 hours a week after the first 6 months of employment in this position.

Essential Duties

 

  • Direct, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate all functions of the College and Career Readiness programs, Adult High School (AHS), High School Equivalency (HSE), English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE), and Prison programs to ensure that standards for program integrity and accountability are being met.
  • Apply and successfully receive annual funding allocation of 231 and 225 grants.
  • Establish training protocols for the coordinator, staff, and instructor to align with student outcomes to ensure program meets and exceeds federal and state performance measures.
  • Investigate, develop, and implement the College and Career Readiness curriculum and programs. Train and/or provide training to the College and Career Readiness staff.
  • Submit monthly budget requirements to the system office.
  • Participate in monthly directors meetings.
  • Attend regional, state, and national workshops to gain program information and professional growth as required by the supervisor.
  • Direct or initiate all personnel actions, including hiring, annual personnel performance evaluations, etc.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets, which includes seeking alternate funding sources through grants.
  • Maintain inventory of instructional materials and equipment. Provide oversight in the utilization of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
  • Ensure student access to special accommodations due to learning disabilities, mental/emotional disabilities, and physical disabilities
  • Facilitate cooperative agreements with external public and private agencies/businesses.
  • Supervise timely, accurate reporting collections and entry of student data, testing, and outcomes for the Literacy Education Information System (LEIS).
  • Participate in institutional effectiveness and accountability strategic planning.
  • Monitor FTE generation for program performance.
  • Supervise the maintenance of records and the preparation of required reports for auditing.
  • Audit classes for accountability and relevance to the Workforce Readiness program mission.
  • Visit off-campus classes at least once monthly.
  • Plan training of new ABE/HSE/ESL/AHS instructors to use appropriate assessment instruments and selection of instructional materials.
  • Provide oversight of in-service training for instructors, specifically in the utilization of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).
  • Provide oversight of monitoring ABE/HSE/ESL/AHS classes to ensure that program integrity and accountability standards are being met.
  • Establish recruiting and retention objectives and establish an overall College and Career Readiness recruiting and retention plan.
  • Supervise coordination of transportation and other support services for ABE/HSE/ESL/AHS students.
  • Ability to research, apply, and implement innovative grant opportunities.
  • Work with NC Works and other community stakeholders.
  • Perform other professional or job-related duties as assigned.
Serve on college committees as directed by supervisor.
Ensure program integrity and accountability in accordance with State mandates and Vance-Granville Community College standards, policies, and procedures.

 

Qualifications

Required


  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Adult, and Community College Education, Counseling, or other related fields.
  • One year of experience in the development and delivery of adult education programs and services OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
  • Masters Degree in Education, Adult, and Community College Education, Counseling, or other related Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the public sector. Formal training in the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) and curriculum development. Bilingual; Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)
  • Extensive supervisory experience. One year of experience in community college and/or literacy programs.

 

Physical Demands
  • Light work that includes moving objects up to 30 pounds.
  • Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting/standing.
