Position Summary:

The Director of Grants and Sponsored Programs (Director) position for the College of Western Idaho oversees comprehensive grants and sponsored programs development. This position will work collaboratively with grant positions in the Business Office and may supervise other members of the pre-award grant team. The Director will develop strategies and make grant policy and procedure recommendations to optimize grant management. This position will be the liaison to the campus, connecting directly with stakeholders, leadership, principal investigators (PIs), and external funding agencies and donors. This position requires strong analytical, project management, collaboration, and problem-solving skills to ensure overall success of grants and sponsored programs at CWI.

Essential Functions:

  • Act as the primary liaison for all campus stakeholders with respect to grants and serve as an expert resource to faculty, support staff, and other constituents
  • Oversee a portfolio of prospective funders and develop strategies to approach them; and inform appropriate CWI individuals
  • Ensure campus stakeholders are trained on grant opportunities, expectations, and responsibilities
  • Make final recommendations to the Provost for approval of grant and sponsored programs applications
  • Work with the Project Director/PI of each potential and awarded grant to oversee the grant proposal development, writing processes, and to review and approve the final grant application, presentation, and submission
  • Coordinate with the Business Office and Project Directors/PIs to develop proposal budgets, monitor active grant spending, and collaborate with post-award staff on annual reports to funding agencies
  • Act in conjunction with the CWI Foundation, implementing and reviewing their grant proposals before submission and assisting with submission
  • Continually review and update information pertaining to changes in federal regulations, specific agency requirements, and procedures for administration of funded awards
  • Supervise members of the Grants and Sponsored Programs team
  • Performs other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful grant experience including the ability to interpret federal, state, and private funding opportunities, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Graduation from an accredited college/university with a bachelors degree or equivalent required. Masters degree preferred
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical, program management, and problem-solving skills and abilities
  • Integrity and a commitment to professional ethics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a proven ability to write reports and present findings and recommendations to multiple audiences
  • Proven ability to utilize technology and learn new software
  • Demonstrated leadership behaviors that result in making good decisions aligned with the Colleges priorities. Encourage team members to perform their duties to achieve priorities. Must possess qualities to inspire team by; creating transparency in the decision-making process when possible achieving accountability for decisions; inspiring team members to meet and exceed goals and objectives; identifying the strengths and development areas of each team member and inspire them to do their best work in an effective manner. Sustained ability to develop and maintain congenial and productive working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the community
  • Experience working in a community college setting, serving diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations preferred
