College of Lake County is seeking Student Development Counselors to support our Counseling, Advising , and Transfer Center. The primary responsibilities include: providing individual and group services pertaining to educational, career, social and student development issues during the day and evening; teaching personal development courses as needed; providing academic advising to students; providing guidance related to career planning and goal setting for educational attainment; providing advising regarding transfer to other institutions; collaborating with the Advising Office as needed; assisting students with locating referral sources; working with computerized student information systems; being active in professional development activities; and working with individuals from various social, gender, ethnic, and economic backgrounds. The amount of advising, career planning and goal setting for educational attainment varies throughout the year.

Master’s degree in Counseling, or related field with counseling emphasis. Graduate course in career counseling. Graduate course in educational tests and measurements.
Previous experience providing counseling/advising services to students.
Must be able to sit and interact with public (internal/external) continuously. Able to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, lift (0-50+ lbs), lift (50+ lbs), carry (0-50+ lbs), carry (50+ lbs), pushing (0-300 lbs) occasionally.
Proven ability to work effectively with individuals and teams from diverse backgrounds and professional responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to exercise judgment and discretion and ability to maintain privacy. Ability to plan and prioritize work requirements and demonstrate independent decision-making capabilities. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office and other technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others. Ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively with varying levels of students, staff and external customers. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy. Solid analytical skills, strong attention to detail, and excellent organizational skills.
Academic advising experience; teaching experience; work experience in a higher education setting, ideally in a community college.

Special Instructions Summary
As part of the interview, the Candidate will need to present a ten minute teaching demonstration for a topic of their choosing for one of the following Personal Development courses: PDS 120, 121, 122 or 123.
Pay RatePer adjunct contract.
Total Hours per week15-25
Monday – Friday, 5 possible Saturdays per year; At least one evening a week until 7:30 pm required or Friday until 4:30; work may be at Grayslake Campus, Southlake Campus or Lakeshore Campus.
